  1. hi frogstar,

congrats on your fellowship from epfl!!

may I ask you a question?

I also apply to EPFL and have passed the first round (or I suppose so).

When did you here from EPFL for your fellowship? Can you let me know your profile?

    Thanks a lot!

  2. Hi all, Have one question about affilition. I'm starting my PhD studies. At the same I'm writing a paper based on the results which were obtained during my Master studies at other University. The paper will be in co-authorship with my former MS supervisor. So which affiliation I should write in the paper: 1) The new university, where I'm starting my PhD. 2) The university where I did my MS 3) Or simply point out both of them Any suggestion?
  3. Hi, I've got offers of admission from EPFL and UCSB Computer Science PhD programs. UCSB offers TA = $16000 for 9 months + tution waiver (inc. non-resident) and health insurance, there is one professor whose research I'm interested in and his former PhD students got decent positions. EPFL offers fellowship of 50000 CHF = $48000, there is no tution cost, EPFL also has one professor whose research I'm interested in. But unlike the professor from UCSB, he doesn't have graduated students because he is an assistant professor (on a tenure track), however he publishes in many good conferences and journals. I don't know what to choose, any advice? Can you tell what are the prons and cons of each option? I appreciate your help.
  4. What if a professor doesn't have graduted students yet (e.g. he's at the begining of his career), but he/she has lots of publications in many top journals and conferences?
  5. Actually there's some possibility that adcoms may google your name or find you on the Facebook. For example the following Prof. checks facebook profiles, here is his advice to prospective grads: If you google my name, the first 10 results are all about my conference paper, except one facebook profile with the same, but with a very stupid drunkish picture of some guy of the same age as me.
