  1. Hi all, So I got accepted into University of Texas Health Science Center and will have a campus visit to Vanderbilt in next few weeks. I haven't heard from other schools yet so I'm not making any decision. However, I just need some opinions on these two schools. I had a phone interview with Vandy yesterday. Although they are a newer program, it seems like they have multiple research opportunities and they have well-established courses planning. However, I don't know much about University of Texas Health Science Center although it was on the Biostats ranking as #15. I was wondering if anyone can give me an advice on these two schools...(i.e. research opportunities, grads outcomes or even location matters...?) *I applied for MS Biostats not PhD and I think Vandy offered 80% tuition waiver for Master and I haven't heard of funding decision for U. or T but likely none.
  2. feel like more master results come out earlier than PhD results this year... I think the results might roll out in waves...
  3. Sorry for the misunderstanding... I did research the school. However, there's not much info on the alumni/future career and I couldn't find much people's comments on the department itself. I know Vanderbilt is a good research university just not sure about the career path and stuff like that.
  4. So I just received email from Vanderbilt as below: "I am writing to gauge your continued interest in Vanderbilt's Biostatistics program. This year we received over 150 applications. Because we only accept 4 PhD and 4 MS students each year, the admissions committee pays special attention to an applicant's 'fit' with our program's educational philosophy and environment. To better gauge this fit, I would like to speak with you about our program and your interests. This will give me an opportunity to get to know you better and give you an opportunity to learn about our program and our department. I'm sure your application has generated significant interest from other programs. If you have already made a decision to attend another program, I would appreciate knowing that as well." Does this count as interview? Since I applied to MS, I didn't expect an interview... Also, is Biostats program in Vanderbilt U. a established program? Didn't see many comments on the program in Vanderbilt U. so I'm just curious... Thanks,
  5. Dang I applied to MA too but didn't get a letter yet.. hope they send out letters in waves though since in the previous email they said the result will come out between mid-Feb to early March.
  6. For people getting offer from UC Berkeley, did you guys originally apply for PhD and got accepted to masters? or you guys originally applied to master program? I'm just wondering if the result for master program is out yet..
  7. Waiting for results is such a pain!!!!

  8. @cyberwulf Thanks for the explanation to my worries! That all makes sense @epimeleia_heautou Yes I know it's out of my control and I'm currently working full time on my project. But it's still so hard 'NOT' to check emails...
  9. My GRE quant score is 166. I guess it's just waiting anxiety makes me so stressed out... Like what footballman2399 said, after getting the first acceptance letter, I will be less stressed and no more checking mail 100x a day...
  10. Bayessays, thanks for the insights! For GPA, do school usually look at the last two yrs or the whole 4 yrs? I have cumulative GPA 3.79 but last two yrs will be 3.87. I think the part that worries me the most is that usually on the result page, we can see lots of ppl saying that they applied to PhD but get accepted to MS. It feels like the MS applicants are competing with the PhD applicants which make me worried that my lack of math will be a defect...
  11. Thank you Biostat_student_22 for you detailed reply! I think I finished the math requirement (multivariable calc and linear algebra) but am still not sure what MS biostats programs are looking into applicants. I know that master program results tend to come out fairly late. I'm just stressed waiting and eagerly to know the result! I guess the results wouldn't come out till mid-Feb to early March... I guess I should just keep waiting for the emails then...
  12. Hi all, I graduated in 2014 with a Biochemistry major. During my last year of college, I decided to pursue in Biostats. I'm just wondering if anyone knows that coming from a natural science major would be a defect? (Since most applicants are from stats or math major as I recall). I'm so worried that not having taken higher level math classes (ie. real analysis...etc) will be a defect while being reviewed by the admission. Also, I'm nervous waiting for the result from schools. Anyone knows approximate when MS biostats result will be out? (The schools I applied are in my signature) Thanks,
  13. Hi all, I submitted by appliation on 12/9. However, now I'm not sure if it's necessary to complete the international students only section when submitting the application in order to be reviewed? On the section it says I will be able to come back and complete if offered admission but some program might require students to submit the forms/complete the section first. I emailed the admins but haven't gotten the reply yet. I was wondering if anyone also encountered this problem?
