  1. Congrats! Which program?
  2. Blerggghhh this is my second year waiting on this admissions nonsense. It's really the worst waiting to hear back
  3. Ah... I haven't seen anything on here for robotics, systems and control. What program are you applying for?
  4. Hey, also waiting on both. Last year this was the week of the first wave of admission acceptances. Best of luck to you!
  5. I also didn't thoroughly reread the solicitation this year, so my personal statement and research statements don't have headings for these. I wouldn't be that concerned, since most reviewers will likely have done this for multiple years before and will be familiar with the old (and IMO better and less clunky) format. I would be willing to bet that a lot of the other applicants did the same.
  6. That's strange... I hope I didn't submit mine late . But yeah, your letter writers won't be told that you were rejected for submitting late. So you could do what DavidB144 said. Just have an explanation prepared for them (whatever that means to you) in April when reviews come back. I don't know if it's common for professors to ask to see your reviewers' comments.
  7. Submitted for mechanical engineering. Here's to another long 5 months
  8. Relevant: http://phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=1821
  9. I had three or four references last year, and I had a reviewer complain there weren't enough references. How many would you say is enough?
  10. Put in in a pastebin here: http://pastebin.com/Kw5kzUxm
  11. Is anyone else creating their application in LaTeX? I have an "nsf.bst" file I made last year to format the references in a simple way. They look like the attached image (except size 10 font)
  12. You can have headers and footers, but the overall margins must be whatever NSF specifies, including headers and footers (1" all around? I don't remember, I'm using my template from last year).

  14. Ah awesome, congrats! I imagine you addressed the gap years in the personal statement? That probably made your application more interesting to the reviewers.
  15. Putting my application in again this year. Got VG/G VG/VG VG/VG last year as an undergrad senior. Kind of mixed feeling about the reviewers comments. Some comments were helpful, but others were totally off target (saying I was missing things that were in bold print in my papers). Likely revising it a bit and submitting almost the same things this year... An aside: I ended up postponing graduate school until spring 2016 because of an internship offer, so I can apply as an undergrad senior again (I think), because I haven't taken any grad classes. Has anyone else done this?
  16. Yepp. Very similar. Good luck with your field change!
  17. I kind of got bashed for the same thing. Switching from physics to BME.
  18. Senior undergrad. No award, no HM. VG/VG, VG/G, VG/VG. Congrats to everyone that won!
  19. I'm planning on trying to sleep through Monday night, but I thought it would be cool to be woken up right away if I happen to win it. I wrote a quick python script and put on it github here https://github.com/luketaverne/StressReducer. Put your name in (and change my youtube video url if you want to), and have it run periodically with cron (on mac/linux), and if your name is in the winner list it will open and play your YouTube video. Good luck everyone!
  20. I'm emailing people in Germany about work this summer, so I've gotten in the habit of doing this as well. Wake up around 5, answer emails and check for GRFP news, go back to sleep. Hoping I can do what you did and still be able to fall asleep after reading the news.
  21. It looks like rejections went out to some Northwestern BME PhD applicants today. I didn't get one, but I also didn't get an interview or invited to visit. The same thing happened with me and UPenn's ESE PhD program today... What is this?...
  22. And a nice celebration if you do.
  23. I haven't had nearly enough Regular Show in my life recently.
  24. There was something on the alerts page last time it was up about "some people might notice intermittent outages." It's probably related to other grants.
  25. I had a nightmare last night that I didn't get it, and the reviewers made me feel awful about my proposal. They gave me a bunch of "poor" rankings and said it was a waste of time and money. Fairly upsetting. Two more weeks.
