  1. Hello, I was recently admitted to U of Pitt's MPH (public health)/MID (international development) degree program. I have not received any money from the school because the school of public health generally does not provide too much in the way of grants or scholarships and the GSPIA is holding my at a prohibitory status until I receive a grade of B or better in at least 12 credits of GSPIA classes. My question is, what should I do for funding? Should I try to find a faculty member to work for? Should I try to get excellent grades in the hopes of getting a scholarship or fellowship following the end of my probation? I would like to get a part time job to at least pay for room and board as living in Pittsburgh is inexpensive. Does anyone have any advice about this school or these programs? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hello, I would love to attend NYU but the cost does worry me. How do people do it? Thanks!
  3. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this school. Is it possible to attend and obtain a master's degree without going over 100K in debt due to tuition and the high cost of living in NYC? Thanks!
  4. Hello, Actually this is all very helpful. It sounds pretty typical of most universities. They are not necessarily there to make our lives easier! Doing a lot of leg work is not too bad. I still hope to secure some sort of funding for the second year at least. Thanks for your help. I will have more questions later I am sure.
  5. So. . .you may not have the answer to this but. . .I am a bit worried about funding at this point. I was accepted on provisional status and will have to have it lifted before I can pursue a large source of funding. Did you find the financial aid department to be helpful? Did they help you pursue funding options? Thanks!
  6. Hello, Thanks for the offer of help! I am excited but a little wary. I suppose it is just that it will be a big change to be back in school after 3 years! One of Pitt's draws for me is the cheap living expenses. Not too many cities can boast such affordable accomodations. Therefore my standard of living will probably not be too diminished by going back to school. The only thing that concerns me is that I will be pursuing a degree in International Development and I wonder about Pittsburgh's location. It seems to me that I may be better served completing a degree of this nature at a school in DC or New York. What did you like best about living in Pittsburgh that may make it really worth while? Thanks!
  7. Hello, I was recently admitted to the U of Pitt's school of public health as well as their school of public and international affairs. I will be pursuing a dual masters MPH/MID. Does anyone know anything about this school? Pittsburgh? Thank you in advance!
  8. Hello, I am still waiting to hear from the Elliot School. Is this a good sign or a bad sign? Thanks!
  9. Hello, I was recently admitted to the University of Pittsburgh's international affairs school. If I decide to attend I would be pursuing a dual degree in international development and public health (masters). I have not heard too much on this forum or others like it about this school. Does anyone have any opinions? Thanks in advance.
  10. Hello, Thanks for offering up your advice. It is always good to get a head start! I have not yet heard back from the Elliot school but if admitted I would seriously consider attending. I would be pursuing a dual degree with the school of public health. You mentioned in your last post that most people attending Elliot were working. Did you know any dual masters students? Would you have said the same of them? What sorts of jobs did people have? I am currently working in a scientific lab setting and am looking for a career change that reflects my interests in health care and international relations. Would you say I could find a job in DC that more closely resembles my future career prospects rather than my current? Thanks in advance!
  11. I thought that might be the case. It seems to me that just about any decent IR program located in Washington DC is going to have some advantages. Have you heard anything about Pitt's GSPIA program? Thanks for the info!
  12. Hello, I understand from this forum and others like it that U of Pitt's GSPIA school and GW's Elliot are not as prestigious as say JHU's SAIS or Columbia's SIPA for masters programs in international affairs and the like but how do they rate anyway? I understand that the more competitive programs claim to give their graduates an advantage in the job market but I couldn't get into those programs at this time so I have to look elsewhere. Is location an issue with Pitt? Does Elliot give a graduate a good chance to land a decent job? What if you are pursuing a dual degree? I myself will be pursuing a dual masters degree with public health at either of these schools. Any opinions? Thanks!
  13. Hello, I am new to this forum. It seems that many of you are pursuing PhD degrees and that is great. I am looking for a little information about the International Relations masters programs out there. I have applied to Elliot at GW University in Washington DC and U of Pitt's Interntional Affairs masters program. Any idea when they generally send out acceptances/rejections? Thanks in advance!
