  1. Salvete Omnes! Currently I'm a student in a Classics terminal masters program. Unfortunately, during my first semester I had to take a medical leave of absence due to a condition that required immediate treatment at home. My undergrad GPA is only 3.45, however, in classics it was above a 3.9, a discrepancy explained by a lackluster performance during my 1st year and a half, especially in Math and Science courses. I have completed 4 years of Latin and 2 of Greek and 1 of German. By the end of this summer I will be at 3.5 years of Greek, 4.5 years of Latin and 2 years of German along with half a year of Coptic. From the time frame of last summer until next fall, I hope to have a GPA somewhere around a 3.9. My GRE is currently a 167 v 157 q and 5.5 AW. Obviously my predicament when applying to PhDs is that of my GPA and considering that I'm coming back from medical leave, any school will only have my grades from this spring semester and this summer for my fall application (except perhaps for programs with deadlines in mid January.) So, especially for "top tier" programs, I may have difficulty achieving a level of competitiveness simply by the state of my GPA. With this being said, my idea is to perhaps focus on applying the fall after next, giving me time to show the entirety of my grades from the MA and also those from the summer of 2016. However, in doing this I would need to find a program to enter in the Fall of 2016, so as to not simply sit idly and wait to send out applications, and to bolster my future credentials. My questions are as follows: A. Does this plan sound reasonable? B. Would I be at a competitive level possibly this this coming Fall? C. Assuming that finances are not an issue, can anyone recommend a 1 year program that would allow me to continue with Greek and Latin (perhaps an MA in Britain?) for the Fall of 2016? Best regards and thank you very much for your help. I'm sorry if my explanation ran a little too long!
