  1. Thanks Alment! I found that too but was wondering how many specifically for painting at UCLA. That number includes all areas...it's not important I guess at this point just another thing to drive myself insane over. If anyone knows off hand I'm just curious.
  2. Anybody know roughly how many applicants UCLA and Yale get for painting each year?
  3. So last year one of my professors from undergrad let me read the letter he wrote and he mostly wrote about the work that I made in his beginning class which was a little disappointing because my work is totally different now. By the time I read the letter it was too late to ask another person for a recommendation. This year I'm asking my studio mate who knows my practice really well and has a masters already, a professor from undergrad who I still have studio visits with, and a person who runs a gallery that I have been in a few shows at and keep in touch with. Do you guys think this is a good selection? I just think it's important to have people who know your work ethic outside of school to. Am I wrong?
  4. The Dean's statement is laughable at best. Based on how this year's application process was (incredbily misleading/outright lies about the program) I can't even imagine how the grads who left must have been treated. I wish I had taken screenshots of the site info when I was applying. Hindsight.
  5. This is my favorite board. You reinforced so many things that I was already thinking/wondering about grad school so thank you for that. Where are you going this year?
  6. I completely agree. I felt pretty jerked around when I found out about all of the changes because at least if I had been rejected and they still had everything they were advertising throughout the application process (full funding, health benefits, stipend, faculty, etc) then fair enough - I knew it was a longshot they only accept 8 people yadda yadda. BUT to go through that gruelling process and make it to the fucking interview and IN THE INTERVIEW have the floor ripped out from under you in being told that they actually don't have any of that stuff any more - I felt totally scammed and on top of that I am now out of $100 for a program that I wouldn't have applied to had they made things more clear through the application process. They offered me a spot on the waitlist too and I opted out.
  7. Wow thank you mlk!!! These are awesome!
  8. Just wanted to start a topic for residency suggestions. I will be applying for a bunch this year since I am now finally starting to accrue vacation time at my job. I specifically want to hear about residencies with funding and that are open for Winter sessions but any suggestions are welcome. List for now: Yaddo MacDowell Ox-Bow Skowhegan Thanks!
  9. UCLA for painting was my top choice (I got rejected this year but plan on applying again next time around). I'm super curious to see any work that made the cut so if your friend is ok with it would you be able to share her website? Also, their website is very vague about funding and nobody on these forums seems to know a concrete amount - do you know any more information about it via your friend. If it's not very good I might have to cross them off of my list for next year. Understandable if you don't have any of this information but I had to ask haha.
  10. Seriously. Wow. Laughable that they still brag about "generous" funding on their site. What a joke. Sorry man.
  11. Congrats on getting in! Is the $15k just for tuition or a living stipend? What a shame tho. They offered me a spot on the waitlist and I turned em down. I'll be applying to more places next year (3rd time) so it's really nice to see everyone having so much success this year after reapplying.
  12. Damn thanks for the info. I was so hoping to move to LA for school this time around but yea I couldn't really care less about whatever "legacy" is there because it sure as hell doesn't look like it's gonna be that way now. Seems like just a bunch of drama I'd be inserting myself into. Guess I'll be applying for schools again next year. Round 3!
  13. The same happened with me after my initial interview request. I responded with times that I was available to talk and had no response til almost a week later when one of the faculty emailed me asking if I was free at a time that wasn't even close to what my availability was. Frankly, with how much is changing over there, I'm surprised and also pretty pissed that they are even accepting applications this year. Now I'm out $100 for a school that advertised all of this stuff that they had and now it's all being taken away. Dammit.
  14. Nope. It was pretty frustrating and disappointing. I'm sure whoever it is will be good but it'd be nice to know - especially when they are asking in an interview who you'd like to work with and everyone you list is either leaving or has left.
  15. well there was a rumor on last years board or maybe it was earlier on this one that frances stark would be leaving and i was hoping it wasn't true but she has totally left (dont know why) but up until a week ago she was still listed as faculty on the site. also apparently tala madani is possibly leaving and charlie white will be working in undergrad. also they told me that funding has been cut and that they no longer provide full rides but you can get close. not sure what that means exactly.
  16. That's awesome congrats!! I had an interview with them...maybe they decided they didn't like anyone they have talked to already lol. They are making a ton of changes so be wary...no more full funding and basically every person who I listed that I want to work with will be leaving by next term (but are still friggin listed as faculty on their website smh)
  17. Interviewed with USC - Everything was a blur but it was pleasant and frank which I was happy about. Barely remember what I said tho. So. No fuckin clue ya'll.
  18. by email on Friday night
  19. i have an interview with usc but haven't nailed down the exact time yet. anyone else interviewing or know how many people they interview? so nervous and was totally not expecting this.
  20. This made me feel better. Any residencies you could recommend? Particularly ones with funding?
  21. Nah haven't posted on here. I do know a couple of people in LA tho so it's possible that they told an undergrad about me idk bleh. Also, the user got to my site through a google search - wasn't linked there from social media of any kind.
  22. It literally said University of California Los Angeles. I like almost shit my pants when I saw it. But it also said that it was a returning visitor and the UCLA edu network was only listed for 1 session in the last month so maybe it's the only time the person was at the school when they looked? The only other network I can find that I think is in the LA area is Time Warner Cable. Also, I'm pretty new at GA so I'm still trying to figure out what all of the information means. There's also the possibility that it's a total coincidence because I was going to apply to Michigan and decided not to and have since been getting hits in Ann Arbor which I would have been certain were UMich had I gone through with applying. Who knows I just want this all to be over.
  23. Where did you see this? Has anyone heard from UCLA about Painting? Google analytics says that someone there (at least someone on the network) looked at my site a few days ago and that they were a returning visitor. Haven't heard anything tho. Geez this is so agonizing. Also haven't stopped checking google analytics since I noticed the network thing. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
