  1. There are 2 grad residences on campus - London Hall is newer and closer to where SLP will be. It is quite pricey though (over a grand a month for a 1 bedroom for ex). You can find 1 bedroom apartments in London for cheaper than the grad residences are. London is a great city - I loved being there during my undergrad. There is always so much to do and, of course, the campus is always live and gorgeous. Where our SLP courses will be, the gym is right across the street, which is perfect for those of us like are into fitness and like to stay active. Where our classes are is still considered campus, but it is a little bit off of main campus (but conveniently, we are extremely close to all the good stuff). Our building is also right across the street from Weldon (the main library on campus, which is huge - and in my opinion, it's a better library than Taylor, which is further into main campus). The SLP building is also right near the UCC (University Community Centre), which has a ton of eatery chains inside it, a grocery store, an apparel store, pharmacy, travel centre, photo lab, atm's, etc etc. There is also a campus pub, as well as a campus restaurant, in the UCC. Both are great. Basically, we are in a great area. Exciting!
  2. Has a Facebook page for Western SLP Class of 2018 been created?!
  3. I agree! I applied to Western with a 3.75 and was still accepted (granted, I have over 500 hours of clinical volunteer SLP experience with preschool, school age, adult and geriatric populations, as well as special populations, a Grad Cert as a CDA, work experience, etc.). Evidence that other things can make up for a slightly lower GPA (as compared to the competition)! The personal statement is also VERY important - they are looking for you to stand out - they want to see something unique that will make them remember you if your name was to pop up. Stellar references are also an absolute must. An average/ok reference will not be good enough, you need to get references that are going to vouch for you 100% and know you on a personal level. Schools can tell if your references do not know you very well. Hope that helps! @june_lu
  4. Hi all! A little late on the draw here but I have also been accepted to Western and I confirmed my acceptance today! So excited! I did my undergrad at Western so I am excited to be back (went to Brock after graduation for extra schooling, as I am from Niagara - currently completing my CDA Grad Cert in Kingston at St. Lawrence College). Looking forward to meeting all my fellow classmates and starting this journey! Feel free to give me a shout since I know the school/area.
  5. Don't get down! This is my third time applying, so I know how you are feeling ALL too well. If this is a career you really want, you will get there. It's difficult to stay positive amongst all the craziness of seeing the acceptances and refusals rolling in, especially when you feel as though you deserve those acceptances, but don't give up hope! If the passion is there, everything will come together in time. Take it from a girl applying for the THIRD time in 3 years (the waitlist at McGill this year is the closest I've ever gotten to getting in - that in itself was a HUGE accomplishment for me!). Even if I don't get in this time again, I know that I have made strides in the right direction. Appreciate those little victories and don't get discouraged! You still have Western coming April 1st (and they accept more people than McGill does, so don't get down on yourself!). Stay optimistic! At this point, it is all out of all of our hands anyway, right? I found this quote today and I feel as though it applies quite well to what you (and the rest of us) are feeling whilst nervously waiting to hear from the rest of the schools. Keep your head up!
  6. Update: it has now switched to requesting accepting your position on the waitlist! Keeping my fingers crossed
  7. I've been wait listed at McGill! This is my third time applying and the first time I've ever made the wait list so I'm super excited! Wait list notifications come via email
  8. Hi everyone - ****for those who did not get accepted**** if you applied to CDA at St. Lawrence and you are looking for a roommate, please contact me: ssymond@alumni.uwo.ca
  9. I just wanted to say best of luck to everyone out there for SLP. I know I've personally been struggling a lot with the admission process this time around (it's my second time applying). Home stretch, keep yourself busy and distracted.
  10. Did they contact your phone number listed under Contact Information, or the number listed under your Permanent Address?
  11. Hi everyone! I recently started a small project called "Sincerely shared". I would really appreciate it if you guys checked it out! www.ssymond.wix.com/sincerelyshared It's an SLP-based project - I am aiming to raise awareness for Parkinson's induced speech, language and communication deficits through the sharing of ANONYMOUS stories. Please visit the link and see what we're all about! And, feel free to submit your own story by clicking on "Share your story", following the procedure outlined! I would really appreciate the support, and I'm sure all of you will be able to relate because of your personal experiences volunteering in SLP. Thanks guys and good luck to everyone! All the best.
  12. I'm also having trouble with the course URL section for ORPAS. I was using the academic calendars for each of the schools I attended (Brock and Western University), but when I copied and pasted the links from the prereq page back into a browser, the pages don't show up. I then tried using pdf website links and that also did not work. What has everyone else been doing?
