  1. There is Peter Craigmile at OSU and Dan Cooley at Colorado State. They are quite famous in Spatial Statistics.
  2. I wrote to the Vice Chair at UCLA and he said that I am waitlisted and that it will take 1-2 months for a "favourable" decision. I don't think I would want to wait that long. In case any of you are still waiting to hear from UCLA, it might help to ask them about your status.
  3. Thanks footballman2399! I will probably write to the chair this time because it doesn't seem to go anywhere when I write to the office assistant.
  4. I was just wondering for any particular program - is it alright to send an email to the Vice Chair for graduate affairs asking about my application status ( and explaining him my position) or is it advisable to always reach out to the staff responsible for Student Affairs first?
  5. Thanks ar_rf and Portmanteaujam. Yes, it certainly looks like I am on some sort of a wait list. But I saw just 4-5 acceptances on results search for UCLA. Even accounting for under reporting, isnt that a small number for UCLA? Oh well, we can only wait.
  6. Will UCLA ever make a decision on my application? This is the only school I am waiting for that could potentially change my decision. I have called them multiple times and they just say "we are still reviewing". Frustrating!
  7. I didn't ask that question particularly but I think we can guesstimate. They have about ~54 PhD student across the 5 years now and there were about 20 odd students at the information day. So, the cohort size should be somewhere around 10-12 if I am not wrong.
  8. Here are my thoughts on the OSU Statistics department after attending their GID on Feb 20. 1. Lot of focus on Spatial Statistics and Statistical Learning 2. I quite liked the mix of domestic and international students in the department 3. I spoke to a couple of faculty members and they were really friendly and interested 4. They appear to have a good BioStat program and students have written thesis on many interdisciplinary topics like criminology etc. 5. The money is pretty good ~$2,100 to start with and it increases as you progress through the degree. I quite liked the department and their focus on both classical and Bayesian statistics. The bad thing is the weather but I dont know if it is going to be a deal breaker for me.
  9. @Karoku_valentine, are you planning to go to the UGA Information day?
  10. Hmmm..neither did I mention anything about Bayesian. Hopefully its not going to hurt me bad.
  11. I will be attending. I will probably be there on 19th evening. Will post under this topic on what I thought about the department.
  12. Thanks qub! I know that Dr. Ombao is one of their star professors and so is Dr. Smith. Do they have a Graduate Information Day? I haven't received anything yet from them but that could be because I am an international.
  13. Hi, I have recently applied to UC Irvine Stats PhD program and although these are still early days, it would be great to have some opinion/advice/feedback on this program. In particular, things like placement records, funding situation etc. I know that they have a decent Machine Learning subprogram in collaboration with the CS department. Any feedback from the current/ex students would be very helpful. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for letting us know. I had an interview a couple of days back. I wouldnt say it was a great interview. Fingers crossed.
  15. I called them up a while back and a lady told me that a number of rejections were sent over the weekend and if we haven't heard from them yet then " no news is good news ".
  16. Nope and I have panicked the whole weekend! Ya lets call the department (the student affairs number) and find out.
  17. I had called the UCLA stats department. They said we should know by Feb 1st. So all the best to everyone out there! That program hasn't been accepting many internationals and that is what concerns me.
  18. Just got an email that NC State has waitlisted me. They received 600 applications this time!!
  19. Has anybody not heard from NC State yet? There have been a number of acceptances and rejections. I haven't received either. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Applied (14/14): UCLA, UCSB, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC SC, USC Marshall, UC Davis, NC State, Duke, Michigan St, Ohio State, U Florida, U Georgia, Virginia Tech. Rejected (1/14): Duke Waitlisted (0/14): Admitted (2/14): Ohio State, U Georgia Attending:
  20. NCSU appears to have sent a few more acceptances last week...haven't received anything from them. My 2nd rejection is taking shape :-(
  21. Bespoke - many congratulations! I have applied to NCSU as well...waiting to see how far I can go.
  22. Has anybody heard anything yet from the Grad Schools for PhD statistics or is it too early? I have seen a couple of NCSU and OSU acceptances on gradcafe.
