  1. I would say your chances are fair, definitely better idea than 50%, though I'm not sure how programs would evaluate the AWA portion of the GRE. It depends on what programs you are applying to. If you're applying to high end programs like Harvard or Johns Hopkins, you might not get through. But mid level programs should accept you easily.
  2. I haven't heard back either, but since I haven't heard anything so far, I am assuming the worst. I checked the results page for some posts from previous years, and last year they informed the people who were not admitted around this time, the second week of February. On the results page, search for UCSF epidemiology. THere is a long list of rejections from last year. I did get an email from the admissions coordinator a couple of weeks ago, saying I should hear something by the 2nd of Feb. 02/02 has come and gone, but still nothing.
  3. A lot of people have been viewing this thread, but it looks like either no one is willing to contribute anything, or no one who has applied to the program at UCSF is viewing these boards. I found a few updates from students who had applied there in previous years, so please share if you have any information. I came across this page from the UCSF graduate school website, specific for the Epidemiology and Translational Science program, which might explain my failure to be admitted, considering my International Status: https://graduate.ucsf.edu/programs/epi-demographics. Any comments?
  4. I am hoping to graduate in May with an MPH in Epidemiology from UMass. I am an international student here. It is a good, solid school with excellent faculty and resources/opportunities for completing your curricular activities, including practicum/capstone/theses etc. and for networking with other potential employers. I feel the Epi/Bio department here is slightly smaller in scale compared to the Community health Department which has an enormous outreach and presence in the neighboring areas, but even we in the Epi department have enough projects on hand to complete projects and come out with a good working knowledge of analysis and study design, good enough to get you into decent job at a hospital like Baystate. There are a few other resources for summer internships as well. The only negative is that the school does not offer too much financial support; of the 7 other Epi students in my batch, one had to pay his way through for both the years, while practically everybody else had to pay for their first year. They all received a tuition waiver in the second year. I had an opportunity to TA for the biology department and for the Disability Services, so I received a tuition waiver for my stay here. Hope this helped.
  5. Anybody apply for a PhD in Epidemiology to UCSF? Did you hear from them yet? The deadline was December 5th.
