  1. I know from last year they all went out from the grad program coordinator around 12/17 with interview weekend being end of January. I thought I saw some results posts around that date again this year so I was surprised to see someone post this late
  2. Getting so close..my heart keeps racing when I think about it
  3. Possible you're right, but I hope not. They are also having 2 maintenance periods within a couple days. The one that happened Sunday could have been regular maintenance, the other the GRF.
  4. https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov 03/26/15 - FastLane will be unavailable from 10:00PM ET, Monday, March 30 to 3:00AM ET, Tuesday, March 31 for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  5. Who's staying up til 3 for the results
  6. I just went through like 15 pages from last year's thread--all in a couple hours leading up to the release around 3am. Based on posts, there were supposedly 500-600 people online at the time reading the thread and passing the time. So if that's any indication, may be a lot of us on here again this year come--I'm assuming--~12-3am Tuesday.
  7. I think you killed the momentum. Pretty unlikely it's just a coincidence given it aligns with the other signs as I mentioned above. Date, day of week, etc
  8. Thanks. Yeah I think it's pretty definitely going to be Tuesday around 3am as in other years. Too much of a coincidence that FastLane is going down, it's a Tuesday (or Friday, as usual), and the maintenance window ends just about time (3am) it seems notifications have been reported before.
  9. Where did you guys see this. I don't see the message in my FastLane
  10. I feel you. I've vacillated between total pessimism and at least moderate optimism. If I get it, I'm almost positive it will be primarily on the strength of my Research Proposal, esp. its Broader Impacts--I think that's my wild card. It also seems it's a bit easier applying as an incoming grad student (which I am) vs. current 1st/2nd year grad students. They supposedly give the same # of fellowships to each level and not as many incoming/undergrads apply (and have less experience than grad students). On the negative side, one of my concerns is that I don't have the neat, consistent narrative in my interests--this topic is my life's work sort of people, this is what I've done in the past and will continue doing in the future. I tried to tie it all together as best as I could, and even tried to address that the diversity of my past experiences enables me to address meaningful topics. Not sure if they bought that, though, since as mentioned many of the winning applications I've seen seem to have that 'consistent narrative' factor. Second, my recs are great and from profs in top notch programs but not in the same subfield as I submitted under. Hence they may not be known by committee members; I'm not sure how much this matters, but I think it mattered in applying to grad schools generally. Third, I didn't major in my field as an undergrad. 6 relevant classes, some post-bacc, + 2 yrs. of research. So yeah they'll probably give it to someone else :-(
  11. I think ChanEvansLam and nsf_weiner's 1-page and done friend both had Nobel Laureates write their references
  12. Officially Thursday, March 26th. In response to others, I just want the news either way. I think we all have to expect the odds are very slim for everyone, so I know at least for me there won't be a major disappointment factor. Oh how nice it would be if we get the results a bit early this Friday, early morning! Any late emails will get my heartbeat going
  13. Highly unlikely--that one year seemed like an aberration and they recently said "early April" via Twitter. I would bet almost anything it's going to be next Wed., 4/1 in the very early hours (2-3am) between Tuesday-Wednesday. It seems possible it might also be next Tues., 3/31 (early morning between Mon.-Tues.), though. There's an overwhelming trend of results being released on Tuesday or Friday from earlier posts of past results.
  14. I asked about this directly at a school where I was waitlisted. I told the prof that I applied for NSF and wanted to see if this was considered at all. He responded that I should definitely stay in touch and let him know if I received it.
  15. No, it was at the very top of the NSFGRFP Twitter page the last time I checked. If you to the NSFGRFP home page, there's the link to their social media at the bottom. You may have gone to an NSF in general page
  16. Everyone sees that, just not the Final Status part
  17. They tweeted "Results should be announced in early April" in response to someone asking about decision timeline. I liked the "around" early April better on the website, since that at least suggested it could be late-March as in some past years. I hope this isn't one of the later release date years.
  18. Holy crap you're right. Wouldn't that be amazing if they posted results now. Highly unlikely though
  19. You know you're in academia when this qualifies as a nightmare...
  20. Someone posted all of the notification dates for the past several years (was in the last few pages of this thread). I think the earliest/only one before April 1 was March 29th, so doesnt seem likely. My best guess is April 1st. I think that's what it was last year and maybe 2 out of last 3 years if I recall. Since decisions seem to be emailed/posted around early morning, 2-3am, I'm considering 3/31as the release date. But really not thinking about this too much or anything.. ;-)
  21. They convene virtually in January..see here: http://www.nsfgrfp.org/panelists, so I think decisions were made quite some time ago for everyone. As someone else mentioned, the delay in revealing them is most likely due to not wanting to interfere with the grad admissions process, since funding would be a MAJOR factor ...and so by the time decisions are announced most recipients know they have a school they are beginning at in the Fall and can use the fellowship
  22. I'm social and haven't heard anything yet. Much Anxious emailed their PI for Social and posted the reject (see earlier in thread). Other than that it seems maybe 1-2 people in Social may have received phone/Skype unofficial interviews--per the results pages Some people here and in previous years have suggested that PIs at Harvard sort of send out interview invites each at their own pace...and who knows whether all feel the need for unofficial phone/Skype interviews. Harvard is still on break until end of January so seems pretty unofficial and erratic at this point. To boot, I'm not even sure if my PI is allowed to take people this year. Oh the ambiguity!
  23. This. I think this should be clear to most people by now. If you're applying to get a Ph.D., you're signing up primarily to do research. A high GPA says you were a good student (consumer of information)...no one can tell what that means as far as the researcher (producer of information) you're going to be. If you look at some of the best Social programs (Harvard, Michigan, UCLA, etc.), their average admit has pretty good GRE scores (mid-150s to low 160s) and pretty good GPA (~3.6-3.7), but they are not stellar numbers--not what you would expect if they were merely recruiting the best students. Once you've met certain cut offs for GPA and GRE that tell them you have at least a general aptitude, the research credentials (recs from supervisors, pubs/posters, research experience) are going to weigh most heavily, because research is what you're signing up to do.
