I have an interview to Ryerson this week, and my POI has told me that she'd be extending the invite to the visiting day after she'd made her short-list following the preliminary interviews

Can you please send me your Ryerson POI? It will be much appreciated!

Hey everyone, I got an email invite from adult clinical at Windsor for a preliminary skype interview and an invite to Ryerson's Visiting Day. But, I have an upcoming interview with another prof from Ryerson so some faculty there may still be conducting interviews independently.

Do you mind sharing your Ryerson POI with me please?

  3. All offers for Ryerson have been sent out. Congrats to those who made it. It was a VERY competitive year.

For both clinical and psychological sciences?

I think it's okay to email your POI to ask about the reason for rejection, as long as you do it professionally. :) I'm planning on doing that myself today or tomorrow. It feels awkward and I'd rather not think about the post-interview rejection anymore, but I want to learn from my failures more than I am scared! Let's do this! :)

I think I am going to go for it as well. I need to know so I can learn from my mistakes! Good luck!

  4. Been a while since I've been on here! I have also been rejected from Queen's and presumed to be rejected from York (from the comments here that the open house is this week). Queen's rejection email was probably the same for all rejections but they said "The most common reason for not admitting a student is simply that no faculty member asked that the student be admitted which leads to automatic rejection. Common reasons for not asking for a student include the faculty member already having as many students as he or she is comfortable supervising or imminent sabbatical leaves." Pretty unbelievable to read this since all my three POIs were taking students. Must actually mean my application was not strong enough :(

Will anyone be emailing their POIs for real reasons for rejections? I want to but I do not know if it is appropriate?

UPDATE: Just checked my York U Myfile and it says 'Reviewed - unsuccessful'

  5. Definitely. I wish she would've been a little more specific about when the committee is meeting and so on, but I guess it's a complicated process and that's a lot of information to give out since it's different for different POI's?

Either way, you're welcome. Good luck!

Thanks Syedahum, good luck to you too!

Looks like someone has already received acceptance from U of T Scarborough for Clinical via email. Congrats! If you do not mind sharing your POI, again I would appreciate it :)

  6. For Ryerson hopefuls holding their breath, this is what I got from Lisa today:

"The admissions committee will review names put forward by faculty members and will make a decision. I’m not sure when all applicants will hear back. We have sent out a few offers already but this process can go into as far as April until we hear back responses from applicants which determines if we need to send out more offers."

    Good luck guys.

Thank you for the very helpful information syedahum. I was wondering whether I should email my POIs for updates on my application. From the info you provided, I should just wait...

  7. Congrats to the person who got accepted to Western! If you do not mind PMing me your POI, I would appreciate it. I just got an email from them acknowledging me for selecting Western as a host organization for CGSM. I got confirmation from them that the results will be uploaded April 1 on the Research Portal. Anyone else got the same email?

  8. Thanks!!

Hmmm I don't think it's necessary, but if laurier is anyone's first/second choice, I think contacting might help them sleep better xD? Since this email is so welcoming, I would definitely take this chance to voice out small  and big concerns/questions with my POI. That way I might be a little more memorable, and probably be less stressed, too. That said though, I'm not going to contact anyone just because that'd actually give me more stress, plus my feeling about Laurier hasn't changed since we last talked about it in our private messages haha~

    How bout you? XD

HAha, my feelings are still the same. I just did not know how to react to it since I have never received an email like that before, although it was nice. I will most likely not be doing anything about it.

  9. Just thought I'd share something that has been helping my sanity and compulsive email checking.. I designate for myself the next time that I will be allowed to check my email, mostly an hour from now or so. That way I can look forward to check my email and still keep sane by not checking it every 10 minutes before that. lol.

Just thought I'd share this and I hope it helps!

I have been actually doing the same. I was checking like every 3 minutes before, but I really had to start controlling it. So I am going to do every hour or so as well.

I feel like so far, from analyzing the results page, most rejections/offers are for Ph.D. applicants. I feel like we(masters applicants) should start worrying more in the next couple of months instead of now. I have been telling myself this to make myself feel better and hope it is true.

  10. Just finished my call XD. Ditto this.

edit: No need to send in official transcripts until there's a conditional acceptance!

That's great. Really glad everything turned out well :)

    Any Laurier applicants?

I received an email from a faculty I think, acknowledging the wait to come ... and an implied confirmation that all of my documents have been received.

I also recieved an email! I was very surprised that it was such a long email. It encourages us to contact additional facutly or students at the school but I do not not know if it is necessary to do so?! What do you think?

  11. Ahhh :) oh my goshhh I wish I sent it then instead of thinking that I could save mail money (And it's not even that expensive compared to the actual application fee). I'll give them a call tomorrow and send in my transcripts asap eek. Did you guys also submit an official degree certificate?

If you can even go to York yourself, they would not mind that (this has happened to me before with GREs missing). No, I did not have to send in an official degree certificate. I believe as long as it explicitly says on your transcript that you have convocated/or when you have conferred, then it is not required.

  12. I just got the invitation to the York open house today, did anyone else?

Also, for those people waiting on Queen's, I have not heard anything from them but a friend interviewed with her POI last week, so they may be finished. As for Dal - my POI told me yesterday that applications are still being reviewed and invites have not gone out yet.

Welcome! I also did not receive an invitation for the Open House, but like nuih, i received an email confirming that all my documents have been received. Are you applying for the Master's or Ph.D. program? And if you can share your POI for York and your friend's POI from Queen's, that would be helpful.

And thanks for sharing! I didn't receive news about York's open house, but I did receive just now an email about the documents in my application. The only thing missing in my application is my official transcript, which the website said it's okay to not send yet, and I think a secretary confirmed this too... but now I'm wondering if I should just mail it in... :S did you send yours?

Yes, you had to send in your official transcripts from the beginning. I do not know why the secretary would say that it was not necessary to send it in at the start! I would maybe call the grad admin office to clear things up, but send in your transcripts asap!

  13. I thought I might share this for those anxiously waiting from York - I spoke to grad admin directly about any updates about applications...she basically said that they have not really started reviewing the applications yet (She seemed pretty surprised that I was asking because she said it's still too early!). Shocking since this school had one of the early deadlines. Apparently we will be receiving invites for interviews in February (from your POIs), but if we do not receive any invites, it does not mean that we are 'officially' rejected until we receive the letter via mail! She spoke more directly about the clinical and clinical-developmental program, so I am not sure this applies to other programs in psych at York. Hope this eases some anxiety :)

  14. Thank you. I've been through everything, but it's not quite clear.

Yes, the process can be a little confusing. If you still need questions answered (fast), I suggest calling them. I have done this before and they were more than willing to help. I do not remember which number I used but here is a list of people you can call http://www.sgs.utoronto.ca/about/Pages/Staff-Directory.aspxand this is the number for general help in regards to grad awards 416-946-0808

  15. For the ones that applied for OISE. Are you applying for the OGS? The deadline is January 30th.

I read the following and I am confused: http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/oise/Current_Students/Graduate_Student_Funding/Graduate_Funding_Package/Applying_for_External_Scholarships.html

I sent them an email, but no reply yet. :(

Hey I haven't applied for it, but you may get your answer on this webpage: http://www.sgs.utoronto.ca/currentstudents/Pages/Ontario-Graduate-Scholarship.aspxI believe this is where you apply and find out your deadline for the program you are applying to. Hope this helps!

  16. I kind of had the same problem.. I did well on the verbal and writing portion but absolutely bombed the quantitative portion. I did very well in advanced stats and psychometric courses. In my statement of interest I addressed my GRE score and immediately pointed out that I have done well in these courses and that I have have hands on experience with data analysis through RA positions.

I haven't been asked this question in either of the interviews that I had. But you never know.. It could potentially come up?

Thanks C10H12N20! That is a reasonable explanation. I am planning to be prepared for the question just in case! Better to be over prepared than not.

Psych101: If you made it to the interview stage, I wouldn't worry about having to explain your low test scores and marks. These factors are usually used to reduce the applicant pool prior to the interviews. At the interview level, your personality, experience and interests are more likely to be evaluated.

If you are asked, explain that it was an unusually low result for you, because you did so well, for example, in your courses, in the lab, during clinical placements, and does not reflect your true potential. Then, slowly veer the conversation back to your strengths, research project, etc.

Thanks constant_wanderer! I really hope you are right and they do not ask me at all, but again, I will be prepared for it. I feel like some experience that we have can somewhat make up for it. I know the GRE or any other aptitude tests do not reflect you 100% or your abilities/skills. Thank you for the advice!

  17. You're welcome.

Sorry, I can't reveal where I've applied (one of them is the institution I have a connection to).

I have not heard back as of yet. My quant on the GRE was absolutely horrendous but I did VERY good on analytical and verbal.

Interviews are being held as we speak and will continue into February. Everyone will hear back (either way) by April. If you don't hear back by mid February, I would assume you've been denied admission.

    Thanks for the update!

  18. Hey Psyc101,

Thanks! What do you mean information about other programs? I got contacted from my POI initially for an interview. The acceptance was through the phone and follow up information through e-mail.

Thanks C10H12N20! Other programs as in when you heard about your admission into the school, did they say anything about them sending acceptances for all programs? But I am assuming that it was only for you!
