  1. Kudos! This thread is an excellent idea. Wyoming nonclinical is in the next three weeks. I'm still waiting on travel itinerary for that one.
  2. Just out of curiosity, which HF lab at UCF are you interested in? I am an RA in Dr. Hancock's lab, MIT2.
  3. Hmm....How do I phrase this? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one - but then again, I'm sorry we all have to wait a while for our decisions. It'd be cool if this site had some kind of applicant matching system based on program so that you could keep up with invites more easily. For example, there could be an Ohio State or Cornell group, not with a special board or anything, just some kind of profile designation that would group us automatically somehow.
  4. Like everyone else here, I'm sure, I've been watching the results page like a hawk. Only one school of mine has contacted me so far and only three others I applied to have even shown on the results page. In the last two days, it looks like a practical tsunami of clinical psych decisions have been made. Meanwhile, social psych admits have been few and far between, especially regarding the schools I am interested in. Is everyone else kind of in the same boat here? If not, are many of you just not posting interviews to the page? It's early in the game, so I am not super anxious, but I find the pattern on the results page kind of weird. The only thing I can think of is large admit pools slowing down the process (acceptance rates low and applications high).
  5. First of all, absolutely make sure you have your funding offer in writing from your top choice school before you withdraw your other applications. You need to make sure this is all official and that the amount is something that you can live with. I have heard horror stories about financial offers made over the phone being diminished significantly or withdrawn completely when push comes to shove. Only once that consideration is safely out of the way should you then take this next step. Keep your second choice open. You may very well learn of mitigating factors that tarnish your first choice in the coming months, and I think it is perfectly reasonable to at least keep one backup option this early in the game.
  6. That's kind of how I'm looking at this all now. With acceptance rates so astronomically low in social psych, I thought it prudent not to get my heart set on any one school. This has essentially forced me to emphasize the negatives of my original favorites or simply not think of them at all. I just try to be flexible about it. I feel like a hippie saying this, but it is all about perspective. Even if I only get into my bottom choice program, at least I got accepted, and I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
  7. Yeah, LOL, some people actually pale and their eyes bug out when I tell them about some of the research and books I've read. They look at me like I'm Hannibal Lecter or something! Are you more interested in academic or applied settings? I applied to two criminology programs on top of my general social psych list and, at the moment, hope to steer towards academic research, though I do appreciate the flexibility provided by a chance at criminology.
  8. Okay, since it was just two weeks ago and they have confirmed receipt of all of your materials, calling them again may not help you right now. I called some adcoms with stupid questions and I could practically hear the eyerolls in their voice, so I would wait until February. If you haven't called a lot though, this may not be too big of a deal. Now, you said that interviews are required, but do you know if they send them all at once or in waves?
  9. Your research sounds very interesting and something I'd like to read. I am interested in studying aggression and violence, particularly bio factors contributing to aggression. My undergrad thesis is on road rage.
  10. Call the grad admissions coordinator to get this straightened out. It may be a system glitch or, if not, the program may be forgiving and let you submit some minor materials late. If you can't contact them for whatever reason, remember that the procedures for interviews and admissions dates vary widely between schools. Some schools send out interview invites in bulk while faculty send out individual emails for others. If the website doesn't have any information on which is the case, you can only hang tight. However, I would not use other students as a guide unless they are applying to the same schools as you. Also, and it varies by schools and discipline as well, I have heard that some places actually only invite students they are unsure of. I can't see that happening much with in-person interviews, which can be time-consuming and expensive, but you can't rule it out either until you have more information.
  11. That is probably a good idea. I didn't want to draw attention to it, but I also don't want to sit here and fret that this was the cause every time a rejection comes in. She doesn't respond very well to that email, but I'll contact admissions to get that straightened out. Hopefully they will respect the original email I sent because she strongly prefers that one. Getting her to agree to correspondences using that email is another story....she can be stubborn and crotchety.
  12. I have heard that this is more of a common practice in business schools for some reason. I am probably being paranoid, but when I came across it in a GMAT forum, I began to worry. Then, one of my apps actually listed my IP address in bold and made a stink about the unofficial email.
  13. I've heard that some schools use software to track potential fraud and I'm worried this could affect me. One of my recommenders had me use her lab email address instead of the official school one and we probably shared the same IP address using computers at the school. She said that she used the school letterhead and everything, but I'm still worried that this will get dinged, especially when there were a few close calls where I sent her reminder emails right up on the deadline when I submitted an app. If they suspect fraud, will they call my recommender or just throw my application in the trash? I didn't provide her phone number unless required, so would they even bother looking her up?
