Hey y'all, Be sure to check your spam! My notice from the Ireland Commission detailing my Terms and Conditions and Grant Authorization has been sitting there for a few days, and I didn't realize it until the director emailed us a followup that I got!
-
Has the UK? I didn't see it when I last checked the spreadsheet.
-
Does anyone know if there's an Ireland group? I haven't seen many (any?) other applicants in here, but thought maybe someone's found/heard of one.
-
Hey, if you can be sure to reapply! I wasn't even recommended last year, so it certainly can help!
-
Looks like Finland has come out as well.

So I've got a question about orientation. It says that for Europe research/study dates are July 29-31. Is that for ever country, or just the ones listed? The way it looks to me is that it's for every, and the listed ones are ETA. However, my grant says it starts in the middle of July, to give me a six weeks practicing Irish before starting the MA. Does anyone know for sure, or should I email the Commission in Ireland?

Guys, I just wanna say that even if you don't get it, apply again. I didn't even get recommended last year, and spent the off time working on my grant proposal and personal statement. It definitely helped, plus you never know what the competition might be like the next year, either! Best of luck to all y'all still waiting to hear.

Just got it! (P)!
-
Ah. This is getting me too excited. Gonna be really disappointed if I don't hear today!

Well, based on my contact with Fulbright Ireland, we're just waiting for the FSB. I was told they were meeting to make their decisions the third week of February.
-
So, generally the Irish programs don't require it. Y'know, being in Ireland and all. But I applied for a grant in the Irish language, so I have to have had 2 years of study, and have to take a placement test before hand. As has already been said, immersion is a great way to go. As soon as you are able, start speaking with natives, even if you make mistakes! Make sure to write, too, and listen to radio, watch movies, etc. in your target language. Your Fulbright proposal is related to language acquisition? That's awesome. Linguistics is an interest of mine, but something my school didn't offer, sadly. However, my proposal was related to sociolinguistics (don't know if we're allowed to talk about our proposals or not..)

Agus tú fhéin,a chara. I'm applying for the Irish language study/research grant. Naturally, my affiliation (not that I have one yet, because it was necessary for the award) is going to be Galway. NUIG, to be more precise. It's basically the place to go for anything Irish language. Best of luck getting the grant and getting your affiliation changed! Me too, me too. Maybe there's still time? What time do they stop sending out emails?
-
Another Ireland applicant! Can I ask what your affiliation is/was and where you'd like to change it?

Scholars for Ireland have already been notified, so I'm assuming they made all decisions at once. I also was in contact with them a month ago (I have to take a test as part of my grant, if I get it, and I was making arrangements to take it at my alma mater) and they told me they were about to meet. Basically, several assumptions. @Virmudi. Thanks! I'm just tired of this waiting game.
-
The thing is I know Ireland has made their decisions! I'm just waiting on the IIE to email me and tell me.
-
Perhaps the worst part for me is not being able to plan anything. I've applied to grad schools here in America as well, and I'm just sorta chomping at the bit to know what I'm doing this summer/year! The lack of details is driving me crazy.
-
I think your GPA will be fine. Mine is only a 3.3 (I dealt with some depression issues and goofed off during my semester abroad), but I got recommended (and hopefully accepted!) I do believe it comes down a lot more to your proposal, personal statement, and recommendations.
-
I really hope to hear back soon. Got less than 2 weeks to register for my language exam if I get it.
-
That's good to know! I'm still just anxious because I know they've met and said they'd be sending them out soonish.
-
Nope. I still haven't heard anything official, though I'm starting to freak out now. I just saw on Facebook that a professor at my alma mater got a US Scholar award to Ireland... Yet I haven't heard anything yet!
-
All this waiting is really frustrating. I just want official word!
-
Ireland's awards should be going out in the next couple of days! Next week at the latest, supposedly!
-
Thanks! Ah, I really hope I get it soon. It's nerve-wracking knowing that they've made the decision, and I don't know it!
-
Yep! I applied for the Irish language Research/Study grant. And, since it requires a B2 (CEFR scale) on the Irish proficiency exam I emailed the test givers about taking it close (my alma mater - I graduated 2014) so I wouldn't have to spend the $500 to take it. They told me to contact Fulbright, and when I did, they told me they'd take care of it. Two weeks later I asked for an update, and they told me they were meeting to decide grants this week! But I do think it's cool. I got really lucky in attending a school where I could take Irish.
