  1. I applied to Leicester. I had my interview Monday and for some reason every time I think about it, I feel more and more pessimistic. I think am losing it.

I've heard great things about Leicester - what program are you going into? And congrats on your interview, I'm sure it went better than you think. I'm trying not to dwell on it so much, even though that's pretty much impossible. I'm looking for a part-time job and I'm going to a community college part-time to get a beginner's knowledge of French and Latin, since I'll be doing an MA in Medieval Studies. I'll keep you in my prayers - we've got this! *fist bump*

  2. Mediaevalist,

Any word yet on an interview? My FPA says next week is the last week for interviews. I don't know whether this is speculation on her part or if she actually is privy to matters. Also, she reckons not getting interviewed is not necessarily bad. She knows people who were not interviewed but got the thing. I hope you hear good news.

Nope - still no word. I emailed Maria Mazer, IIE Program Manager for Europe/Eurasia, and she said: "The Fulbright Commission does interview some candidates, but if you don’t hear from them about an interview it doesn’t mean that you are not being considered. They may not be interviewing for every partnership program."

I know that last year, decisions were sent on 3/19, so I'm hoping that we'll get notified in the next 2-3 weeks. *fingers crossed* What Partnership Award are you applying for? I applied to Exeter. Good luck to you! :)

  3. Did people receive a confirmation that their transcript was received at the NY office? I'm assuming if we haven't heard anything, they've received it...is that fair?

i will assume this is what's going on. I'm hesitant to reach out and asked. I've read about some horror stories regarding transcript...

I sent an email to Maria Mazer, IIE Program Manager for Europe/Eurasia, to see if I could confirm my transcripts had been received, and she replied:

"Due to the number of transcripts we are processing at the moment, we are not able to provide individual confirmation. If we do not received your transcript, we will be in touch and ask you to re-submit. In this case, no news is good news. "

So if we haven't heard anything, that probably means they've been received.

Also, I asked her when UK notifications would be sent out, and she replied:

"I can’t say exactly when decisions will be announced because the Fulbright Commission in the UK is currently working on their final decisions. IIE makes most announcements in March and April."

Last year most notifications came out on 3/19, so given this year's early recommendation notification (1/16), I'm hoping final notifications will be sent out in the next 2 weeks! :)

  4. Medievalist- (Cool name, by the way! Is the MA you applied for studying Medieval ages from a history or literature perspective?) I received my notification on the 5th, and my interview is the 17th, so maybe they just notify a week and a half to two weeks before your interview? That seems like a fair possibility.

I still can't seem to figure out if every UK award requires an interview. I've heard so much conflicting information.  I know that the UK-US partnership website says the following:

Q: I haven't been selected for a telephone interview. Can I find out why?

A: The application pool is large and highly competitive. Given the number of applications received, It is not possible for the Commission to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.

However... I'm also under the impression that "unsuccessful applications" refers to those that were not recommended, as I have heard that all recommended applicants receive the final email stating "Not Selected," "Alternate," or "Principle."

It also says elsewhere on the website: "Following the application deadline and subsequent review of applications, successful applicants may be invited for telephone interviews by the Fulbright Commission"

I have heard that interpreted in two ways: 1) That some applicants may be successful (recommended), and some or all of those will be interviewed depending on the program. OR 2) That those who are recommended may or may not be interviewed, depending on whether or not the next step of review finds them successful.

Is this information helpful? Probably not. But that is what I kept rereading (OVER AND OVER), and I can't seem to get anything clearer out of it than that.

As for my application--- University of Sheffield. I don't think anyone on here yet has posted about Exeter interviews. I hope that means good news for you!

Hi Rosy - I'm studying Medieval History - particularly Western European religious history from 1050-1250. Thank you for all this info. I emailed Ms. Mazer, the Fulbright Program Manager for Europe/Eurasia, and she replied the following:

"The Fulbright Commission does interview some candidates, but if you don’t hear from them about an interview it doesn’t mean that you are not being considered. They may not be interviewing for every partnership program."

I still have not heard anything, which I'm hoping just means that Exeter is not doing interviews. According to the stats on the Fulbright UK page (http://us.fulbrightonline.org/countries/selectedcountry/united-kingdom), 16 people applied to Exeter for the Fulbright last year, and I still haven't found anyone on here applying to Exeter, so I'm hoping that means a lot less people applied there this year.

  5. Hello!

I know I received my email 5 days after the first UK applicant on this forum posted that they received their email. Maybe it's on a school-by-school basis and they haven't finished your school yet! Which grant did you apply for?

Good luck! I know it's horrible waiting!

    Hi all,

I have not received an interview for the UK. Am I doomed for rejection?

Rosy, what University Award are you applying for? Dbloom, I haven't received an interview email either, so I'm starting to freak out too - where are you applying? I'm applying to University of Exeter for an MA Degree. Since I'm guessing the interviews will take place the last week in February, does this mean if we don't hear anything by the end of the week we've been rejected? A friend told me she got the email 2 weeks before her interview last year. Also, are interviews mandatory for all UK Awards, or only some?

  6. Has anyone been admitted into the English PhD program at either UC Davis or UWashington?

Applying: BerkeleyColumbia, Mills College, Princeton, UC Davis, University of Exeter, UWashington

    Accepted: (0/11)

    Waitlisted: (0/11)

Rejected: (2/11) Berkeley (History PhD), Columbia (English PhD), Princeton (History PhD)

  7. Congratulations on getting recommended. It's really difficult to say because every year is different. Last year, the notifications were sent out on the 18th of March. The US-UK Fulbright Commission website has March 2015 for notifications. I would be very delighted if we hear in March. I am applying to Leicester's International Relations and World Order program. Which school are you interested in?

Thank you! I hope we get decision notifications in March too! I am applying to the University of Exeter's Medieval Studies MA program. Do you know when the phone interviews will take place? I haven't gotten an email with that info yet, so that worries me a little. UK is one of the countries that requires phone/Skype interviews, right? Thanks!

  8. Hi everyone! *waves* I'm new to GradCafe, and saw this forum in a Google search. I got recommended for a study/research grant in the UK! This is my first time applying, and I'm so excited to have passed the first round! The email said I could get the final notification between February and May, which is a big time frame, so I am wondering if anyone knows when the UK usually sends final notifications? Thanks!
