  1. about to write an email like - "To Whom it May Concern: I am writing in regards to my Fulbright Application for the 2015-2016 year. Pertaining to the notification period, I have the following questions: 1) srsly? 2) wtf? Sincerely, Jade"
  2. Not Fulbright (obviously, because it's the weekend) but I did find out that I'm getting a poem published in a poetry journal coming out this fall! So at least it's something.
  3. Also I'm not sure if this means anything in either direction, but I was a finalist for a Jordan ETA last year and I just searched my email... I'm like 85% sure I didn't get a "save the date" last year... Does this bode well? Will we receive notifications at 9pm EST again? Who know. CONSPIRACIES.
  4. Our email states: "Grantees who fail to attend the orientation and/or workshop without explicit exemption from the Department of State, or who fail to participate fully in all of the required sessions will have their grants withdrawn." Because the CLS program is a Dept. of State thing it might qualify for the exemption bit honestly, if anything could. Worth a shot to inquire, at least.
  5. We're both applicants to Jordan. Our orientation dates are also earlier than everyone else's, so that could be why they sent them out now.
  6. I got it too. So rude, haha.
  7. meanwhile
  8. Ooo this is a good distraction. I am an ETA applicant to Jordan, and growing up a few of my closest friends were from Jordan and Lebanon. I spent a decent amount of time hearing the Arabic language, and so when I entered Uni to study Linguistics, I chose Arabic as my non-Indo European language of study for my degree. As it goes, studying the language got me much more interested in the region, and I studied abroad in Morocco. Following graduation, I also did an internship in the West Bank of Palestine. I've wanted to go to Jordan for a really long time, and think this is a great opportunity not only to develop professionally, but to garner critical language skills and intercultural experience! Yay! .... okay Jordan, you can send out notifications now.
  9. I think of waiting for Fulbright notifications kind of like freezing to death on a mountain. In the first couple weeks it was so painful and anxiety-inducing, like the frostbite setting in to my toes and my muscles cramping from the cold. But now it has me at a point where I am numb and just want to go to sleep and die. That is my relationship with this fellowship currently. Too dark? I'm laughing regardless.
  10. Who keeps mutilating the spreadsheet?
  11. This is my favorite post in the whole thing because I believe that stress ulcers are slowly eating away at me.
  12. I think the anxiety from this wait has knocked like five years off of my life.
  13. According to my Instagram and Twitter stalking Poland notified today.
  14. Boomshahkolaka, Have you lived in the MidEast/North Africa before? I found that my family was really, really anxious initially but after I'd actually gained some experience they'd calmed down a bit! Curious if you've had a similar experience.
  15. My family is more comfortable with it now. I lived in Morocco for a semester of undergrad, but after I graduated I bought a plane ticket to Ben-Gurion while the summer Gaza war was still happening to go do an internship in the West Bank without telling them... LOL. Like literally I said "Hey mom and dad... guess what." As a first generation student from a rural town I also have the blessing/curse of them not having a ton of context for what's happening in the world so the less information they have is probably the best. This seems mild to them because at least they can mentally prepare for it. Also they know I have a LOT of connections to people in Amman so they're more comfortable with it (a very close friend from high school's extended family all lives there).
  16. Calling all Pacific Northwest applicants for anxiety-induced crying session.
  17. Lol are we the same person? I'm also working on planning an event for my organization. I'm not accomplishing anything. I'm supposed to be finding wine right now for the event but I just wanna find wine for myself.
  18. ME EITHER. I can't focus on anything.
  19. My FPA actually doesn't get the final list of selected applicants until like mid-summer, and requests that we inform her as we receive notifications throughout the spring. So I don't know if it differs by type of school perhaps (I gradated from a very large Public Ivy-type) but I was under the impression that all of the medical clearances/etc; had to go through before the FPAs would have that information.
  20. This is my worst fear. I neurotically check my spam folder, too! Haha. Damn algorithms didn't do their job right!
  21. I was suspicious because it said "BA Linguistics" exactly mirroring my accidentally abnormal degree input. I was like WHAT IS THIS? I also haven't slept enough in the past two days so I'm also paranoid from exhaustion.
  22. That was my first thought too! This is a cruel joke, isn't it? THERE MUST BE SOME MISTAKE.
  23. OMG WAIT WHAT. My heart just dropped. I'm an ETA applicant to Jordan. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?! I've heard nothing.
  24. Damn... mad props to five Andorra ETAs who did the legwork to become advanced speakers of Catalan (per the program requirements).
  25. this is me at this point
