  1. Nope but I am waiting as well! I called yesterday and the Graduate Admissions Department said that letters could be sent out anytime between the end of February and early April. I called the Social Work Department itself to see if they could give me anymore information, but they told me I needed to call the Graduate Admissions office.. Do you know much about the Ryerson program? I applied because the curriculum really appeals to me.. but I'd love to know a bit more about placement opportunities.
  2. Good luck everyone!! I have no idea when Ryerson sends acceptance letters, and I don't want to start calling and bothering them yet lol! I reviewed previous threads and it seems like people get them anywhere from the end of February to early April.
  3. For those of you in Ontario applying to advanced standing MSW programs, have you tried to enter the job market with a BSW? I graduated with my BSW in May 2014 and found it really difficult to find a job in the GTA/Kitchener/Guelph/Waterloo/etc area. I ended up moving to Alberta for a six month contract in July 2014. My contract recently ended and I chose not to renew (rural Alberta honestly is just not for me...). As of now I'm trying to decide if I should just move back to Ontario whether or not I get into an MSW program and try to find work.. or if I should try to land a job in Calgary or Edmonton as those cities at least seem less competitive than the GTA. I would love to hear people's experiences of trying to find work in the GTA!
  4. My cousin did the MSW program at U of T and there are lots of great clinical opportunities. She has been a family therapist for 5+ years since completing the program. What stream did you apply to? I know that U of T has a wide range of hospital placements, they also have connections with family therapy agencies such as Hincks-Dellcrest, Reach Out Centre for Kids, Oolagen Community Services, etc. From what I've been told the health and mental health stream is a better bet if you're hoping to do hospital social work, but the children and families stream has a lot more courses related to therapeutic intervention (e.g. learning how to conduct narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, etc).
  5. For anyone applying for the advanced standing MSW, Ryerson seems to still be accepting applications! I literally applied two weeks ago. I intended on staying in Alberta and working for another year and a half.. but the hiring freeze is limiting opportunities here so I made a last minute decision to apply for my MSW!
  6. It's the local health authority in the Okanagan region in British Columbia. It's a great placement option for anyone doing an MSW at UBCO!
  7. For those of you going out West check out placement options at Interior Health! I have a friend who works there that loves it. Also, if you're not set on going back to Ontario right after grad, Alberta Health Services has some great post-MSW positions that pay incredibly well.
  8. There are definitely quite a few social school worker positions with various school districts across the province. These positions are quite competitive though I believe.
  9. Thanks for all of the information! blh22 I don't have a whole lot of info, but I know Laurier is well connected to placement agencies. My BSW field instructor did her MSW there and got two very strong therapy placements. I did my second BSW placement at Reach Out Centre for Kids and I know they have a partnership with Laurier's MSW program. A friend of mine is also doing the MSW advanced standing program at Laurier now and he's doing a counselling placement with City of Hamilton. If you want to get an idea of what placements each school has I'd recommend creeping linkedin to see what placements previous graduates did . I'd recommend ROCK to anyone who gets into Laurier. Amazing agency, and they hire quite a few MSW graduates who do placements with them . I actually didn't intend on applying for my MSW this year, but I'm currently in Alberta and the government just initiated a hiring freeze that's really limiting opportunities here. Before moving here I was in Oakville and I had a lot of difficulty finding work. I decided to apply late and Ryerson was accepting applications still, but Laurier and U of T were not. Ryerson has always been my first choice, but I'm contemplating whether or not I should wait to do my MSW in 2016 so I can apply for Laurier and U of T as well..
  10. Has anyone applied to Ryerson? I applied to the Advanced Standing MSW and would love some more information about it! As much as I love the outline of the curriculum I'm a little bit concerned about placement options. It seems that U of T and Laurier have better connections to placement options. I've also been browsing through the forums and haven't seen much in regard to whether or not Ryerson offers funding packages. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it . Good luck to everyone!!
