  1. Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I’d be happy to elaborate a little more on my interests. My interests range from race/or ethnicity constructs, social and cultural theory, West Africa, proselytizing religious communities, NGOS, etc. It’s a bit more specific than that, but I think that’s a decent general representation. I am intrigued by the work of Rouse and Greenhouse, especially, but I am open to working with anyone with similar (but not necessarily exact) interests. I also appreciate the University of Chicago’s commitment to providing students with a good foundation in cultural theory. However, I really do not know much about the other programs other than a handful of publications I’ve read written by faculty members, and the information provided on the website(s). I am a bit concerned about funding, so any information pertaining to that would be helpful as well. I see that you’ve applied to many of the schools I mentioned above. What were the reasons in the end that led you to do so?
  2. Hello everyone. I am planning to apply for sociocultural anthropology PhD programs as early as 2011. However, I am limited a bit geographically (for at least a couple of years) and I would really appreciate any honest opinions from current students or those that have already applied to the following schools: University of Chicago Northwestern University (Or any others in the Chicago area) Washington University in St. Louis Indiana University Boston, MA area (Harvard OR others) Columbia University's program has also been highly recommended by a friend (sociologist). It's not really geographically convenient, but I am willing to wait a couple of years if necessary. I am open to any information, but especially appreciate information that I can't find by browsing the program sites. Thanks!
