  2. Thanks Savannah in the world for your reply! I guess I have another question. I am a runner. so where would you suggest a good route to run? (since north part of rogers park sounds not fun, so I am assuming running south toward edgewater is better? actually how's the neighborhood of edgewater? can I run follow sheridan Ave?? Thanks a lot!
  3. hello folks! I will be studying MFT in fall 2015 at NU, and I just signed a lease with an apt company. It's near the border of rogers park and edgewater, near loyola University. I learned that it is not good to live in certain area of rogers park, just wondering do you guys think my apt's location is okay? Thanks thanks thanks!!
  4. Thanks for the pertinent advice Jenste! I kinda went through the same mind journey and I think I am more interested in counselling skills in a therapeutic setting so Northwestern it is haha
  5. thanks sackofcrap! That's what I found as well ...But I ended up going to northwestern's MFT program... hope its national credibility will help more or less lol
  6. Thanks Nick, I am definitly thinking about Phd .... but not in the near future tho.. Too much school and I feel like I need a nice break before I am ready to go back hahah
  7. same same! hi there! will be studying MS in Marriage and Family Therapy this coming fall apartment hunting is killing me lol nice to meet you everyone!
  8. Hello everyone, I am interested in helping profession and I got admitted into both MSW and MSMFT programs from schools that are top in each programs respectively( WUSTL, UW and Northwestern) , My goal is to secure a job and obtain the H1B visa after 2 year of study. I am an Asian and bilingual so I factored that in as well. I tried find employment data for international student for social work and MFT profession but they are so hard to find. I know for domestic graduates, looks like social worker has a broader employment market than Marriage and Family Therapist but they also earn less money. I am thinking to use my bilingual skills and find a place where has a lot of Aisian population may help? I am also admitted into UW for their MSW. and because the Asian population there, would it be a benefit for me? Does anybody know if there is a lot of Asian population in Chicago Area? ( I really like the MSMFT program that Northewestern offer, but worry about the future job opportunity... although their employment rate is 100%----who knows if that also include international student lol ) Another pain in the butt is that typical after graduation there is a 2 year period to accumulate the hour and apply for state licensure. but for international student, there is only one year of time that federal government give for us to do the internship ( OPT) I really don't want to graduate with a degree and has to go back home without even grab the license..... So the most optimal situation is that I graduate, I find an place that willing to offer me an OPT( which not seem like a problem) and then further willing to support my H1b visa application process. so I can at least finish my licensure process. oh man I am already got a little desperate just by writing it lol I know it probably depends cuz I ve heard people find a place who are not willing to offer the H1b sponsor but later are willing to help out. I also heard we can find a lawyer and apply for H1b on our own as long as the company is willing to provide supporting documents. but I am still "paranoid" and trying to grab more information... Sorry for so many questions but I feel you guys may have some insights and would like to shed lights on it? thank you thank you thank you!!

  11. Thanks BiochemMom, I am not applying for a research orientated program so I guess It's easier in a sense that I don't have to have a specific research interest but still it was helpful to know why they are ask that question.. Thanks a lot for that
  12. Thank you so much MidwesternAloha, this sound like a practical advice. I ll think about how I ll handle the line between competitive but also devoted..
  13. Hello everyone I will be attending three interviews for Master of Marriage and Family and Therapy programs the week after next week. and I am preparing for the possible question and answers. A question popped out : what if they ask me if I have applied to other programs? should I be honest and tell them all the schools that I applied to ( even MSWs )? I am just worried that it may make me sound less determined to the program that I will be interviewed. also would knowing an applicant has applied to a school that's ranked higher then their school has any effect on their admission decision? <for example (just for example..) would a school ranked 20 be more willing to accept an candidate who also applied and got the interview invitation for a school that's ranked 10? or would a school that's ranked 100 be hesitate to give out their admission when they know the candidate has gone to a top school interview because they don't want to waste their quota for admission? > I haven't seen people discussing about it in the forum so maybe it is some sort of common sense? I am an international student so, sorry if I asked inappropriate questions... I just wanted to know what's expect in an interview for question like that ? Thanks a lot!!! good luck everyone!
  14. Hello everyone! I just got an invatiation of a three hour group and individual interview from Northwestern' MS in Marriage and Family Therapy program and I am excited !!! but also worried.... 3 hours of an interview sounds pretty hardcore .... I did my research and I am confused about should I prepare a lot for the research background? ( their website said that a thesis is not required for graduation, but there is a research section on the website. seems like they are doing research but they don't stress it....) Just wondering if any folks have been interviewed and could share some of the great insights they got to shed light on my future trip? what's the process? how long is each? how many people interviewed you for the individual interview section? what question they ask for group interview and what question they ask for individual interview? finger corssed and good luck with everone in their application process!!!!
  15. I think I got everything submitted before 12/01 or sometime around then...
  16. yes I got an offer of their MSW on 01/15... I am still awaiting for my other schools... good luck!!
  17. I am an international student and I got the group interview/ school visit invitation from Univer of Rochester for their Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program. I really like the structure of their program because their MFT is located within their department of psycharitry, which will enable me to have a lot of experience with clinical population. Just a few questions: 1. In the email it said that the group interview is not the whole portion or the visit, there will be other sections such as welcome of the dean, Program Overview, luncheon. guess my question is what's the acceptance rate among the invited applicants? cuz it seems that they are pretty active in introducing their school to us... do we still need to go through a "battlefield" to ensure the admission or its more laid back? 2. Any tips about group interview for MFT programs? I am a little freak out as I am an international student and this is the first invitation of the interview I got and it is one of my top choice school (oh well I am kinda indecisive so I have 4 top choice schools lol but anyway...) it would be super nice if any folks in the similar field can give me some insights about the what the interviewer value in a group interview ,.. or if you have heard anything about the MFT program in Rochester. how's the reputation? Is it easy to secure a job postgraduate ? what's the wage situation compare to Social work( cuz I am also applying for MSWs?) Thanks a lot !!
