  1. Yea it was posed more like a question, a question I had anticipated considering I'm applying to painting programs and don't paint, haha, but it still threw me and made me a lil nervous. Wow at the "digital age" thing. I actually prepared for a question like that but I don't know how I would have responded to that in person, haha, seems kinda confrontational.
  2. One of my interviewers was like "but you don't paint..ever" (obviously paraphrasing haha)
  3. Within two days of submitting I started working on my portfolio for next year, haha, once the thrill of getting an interview wore off I guess. Fingers crossed but staying realistic
  4. I was doing really well as far as curbing my nerves for saic up till tonight...Eeeek, tomorrow will probably be even worse!
  5. They are still reviewing for painting/drawing at saic
  6. I didn't really anticipate or think through the logistics of inviting people to dinner, sorry! Hope everyone had a good time last night!
  7. That's around the size I'm bringing. I would assume it's fine as long as it's not cumbersome to bring in/set up/display
  8. Anyone going to the saic open-studio performance event (not sure if this is the proper title) tomorrow?
  9. Any idea of when vcu painting sends out their rejections? I hope it's by snail mail so I can put it on my fridge, haha
  10. All you need is one saic and mica (I went to mica for undergrad) are great programs and getting interviews to both is something to take pride in
  11. Great! I'm psyched for the weekend (in regards to the saic interview event) I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and corroborating the anxiety that has been virtually all-consuming for the last 2 months
  12. For university of Chicago it really depends on if you have a car. My friend works there, lives in pilsen and its a 15 minute car ride. I must admit I don't know anything about hyde park/south side Pilsen/Bridgeport are safe. They are (like in the part I live) blue light but I've never had a problem at all (and I do have a car)
  13. Chicago is actually very affordable in the right neighborhood. I used to pay 300/month and now I pay 525 for 2 bedrooms. Look at neighborhoods like pilsen/Bridgeport/humboldt park. Saic housing is insanely expensive because it is in the loop.
  14. I'm pretty sure my friends are tired of me talking about this whole process, so it would be really nice to talk to people in the same boat (in a no pressure setting)
  15. For anyone who is coming to the saic interview event feb 28th/ March 1st. We should go out for dinner after the reception! I live in chicago so I know a good handful of places with cheap/good food.
  16. im honestly astounded by how shitty of a move that is. Damn.
  17. Im pretty sure this has little impact on your acceptance/invitation to interview. the fact that you applied is expressing interest, and they will ultimately chose applicants based on their portfolio. This is also coming from someone who hasnt communicated at all with any members of faculty or anything.
  18. Yep! Got the email around 3
  19. Just got an interview invite from risd painting!
  20. I didn't contact admissions, I'm assuming that if someone had a painting interview than they contacted everyone who applied to painting. Sorry should have qualified that.
  21. So vcu already contacted all interview candidates? Oh well! 1/3 isn't bad at all (still waiting for risd)
  22. Turns out the first person I spoke to in admissions at vcu was looking at a checklist that had not been updated...spoke to grad admissions and I actually do have everything for vcu. Had such a frown for a good 45 minutes until they called me haha.
  23. Vcu never received my transcripts (that I sent in November) and apparently I am missing a letter of recommendation (my recommender told me he submitted it well before the deadline). Ugg. Feeling very bummed.
  24. How did vcu notify you of your interview?
