  1. I think schools want a diversity in students backgrounds...while I was a painting major at MICA, i have been working in early childhood education for the last 4 years and have never shown/exhibited outside of school. Based on the outcomes, this was certainly not counted against me (if it wasnt positive!) i wouldnt be intimidated by a lack of pedigree, so to speak.

  3. I don't have any specific knowledge about Boston or Syracuse, but I did want to put my two cents in about faculty work and using this as a measure of their teaching ability. Some of my most valuable critiques have come from teachers whose work I didn't really relate to or even like. Along the same lines, some of the most influential classes haven't even been studio classes. So I would hesitate to make a decision based on faculty work, as this is just one aspect (and in my opinion, not particularly relevant) aspect of teacher, really in any discipline.
  4. So I got into saic but got waitlised at risd. SAIC wants a deposit by April 15th, and RISD wants theirs by April 21st (so if I were to get in, I wouldn't know until after. Any advice on what to do in this situation?
  5. You could talk to someone at Yale about your situation. I imagine they have encountered situations like yours before, and they could give some guidance as your tuition is contingent on information that is unavailable to you. Maybe that would even out the decision?
  6. I received an email at 11. The wait continues :/
  7. Wait listed at risd as well. I'm going to call to see how the waitlist is formatted and get (hopefully) a better sense of what exactly it means
  8. While this is not specific to mfa programs, did anyone else apply for the Vermont studio center fellowships? They said they'd make their decisions by April...has anyone heard anything?
  9. In my interviews we primarily talked about work I brought in, and I don't think the rest of my portfolio was discussed at all in either interview. I brought in one new work (still in progress) and a couple others that I felt translated best in person/were my strongest. Saic and risd both gravitated towards the same elements in the drawings, but gave conflicting feedback. I guess what threw me the most was that saic didn't question my time spent between undergrad and now, whereas risd asked what I've been doing and how it influenced my work. Mostly I was just surprised that saic didn't ask at all, but also saic seemed better acquainted with my application in full (cv/essay/portfolio) than risd was.
  10. I would expect the painting acceptances to go out a little earlier than wait list/ rejections. Risds spring break is next week so they will probably decide before? Who knows :/
  11. I went to NPD and the reviews/feedback I got have pretty much predicted the outcomes. Vcu told me to build my portfolio for a year and to definitely apply next year- that was a rejection Saic was very positive and waived my application fee- that ended up with an interview and acceptance Risd was very positive- that ended up with an interview and I'm waiting to hear back. So yea, I highly recommend going to portfolio day if it's feasible.

  13. If you already are planning to "transfer out" (which is almost all cases is just dropping out and starting over) why wouldn't you just hold off and apply next year?
  14. I'm leaning towards saic for painting/drawing. Pretty sure I'm out of the running for risd (my interview felt like falling down a cliff in slow motion, haha, my nerves really got the best of me). Is anyone else considering saic for pt/dw?
  15. Also thanks yall! It's pretty nuts that after a year and a half this process is ending (or coming to an end I suppose), feels pretty unreal. Best of luck to everyone!
  16. I went to risd for an interview on the 9th, if I'm not mistaken they said in the next 2 weeks, and definitely by April.
  17. Got offered spot at saic painting/drawing via phone call. Also got more or less rejected from vcu haha
  18. In person on the 9th. Flying out tomorrow morning, almost finished "packing" aka pacing around my apartment
  19. Anyone else interviewing at risd the 9th/10th? Feeling very nervous!
  20. Also I snooped last years and someone was accepted around the 10th via postal mail for painting/drawing . Makes sense due to the size of the program (double some of the others)
  21. Congratulations!! I haven't heard anything yet..thanks for the kind words c:
