Yeah I'm not too down about it. I'm still riding an emotional high from Berkeley. Still waiting on the official email from them though, so a very small part of me is convinced that sent me the wrong thing lol.

Unsurprisingly, it's a rejection from MIT.

Got an unofficial email on Saturday. Visit days are the 4th, 11th, and 18th (of March).

"The checking of all the records and official response of the graduate school takes a few weeks, but this is just a formality in your case" this is the relevant part of the email! There's definitely still hope. I thought I was getting denied because I hadn't heard back yet.

I am materials and the email was from Kristie Boering, though the tone of the email implied they aren't finished making decisions.

Just got into Berkeley!

rejection from Harvard, no surprise there.

I applied to Caltech for Material Science and just got invited to their visit day.

Got into Northwestern

Congrats Kaffee! I loved the summer I spent at Northwestern, really hoping to hear from them soon. Did they say when official information would come out? I've been refreshing the admissions tracking page fairly regularly.

Oh well I don't have the slightest idea. It wouldn't surprise me though.

I have no idea. I always thought interviews were more common in Biology programs and/or for international applicants. Did you get an interview at MIT? I applied and haven't heard anything since I submitted my application.
-
I haven't heard anything, but I also don't really think that I will get in because I didn't send them my Chem GRE scores. Since the scores were optional and I didn't do so hot it didn't make sense for me to pay and send them when they wouldn't help my application.

I've gotten an unofficial acceptance from a POI at UCLA!

I just took the GRE and got a 161 V and 162 Q. Are these scores considered good given the rest of my profile? -
Research Experience and Letters for Chemistry Programs

My target schools are UCLA (I've been in contact with a professor at UCLA), UC-Boulder, and UWashington. The rest are reaches. NU I feel like I have a decent chance sent I spent a summer there, but Caltech/Berkeley/Stanford I feel like are reaches. -

I think you've assigned them about accurately. It would ideal if you could get that publication out by application time. For what it's worth, I'm applying to UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, Northwestern, University of Washington, UC-Boulder, and Caltech with a similar GPA (~3.37 overall, ~3.57 major GPA and `3.55 GPA without freshman year), likely similar GRE scores, but my research experience is slightly better (2 2nd author papers and I'm writing a 1st author paper now, one summer at Northwestern, one summer at Caltech, and 2+ years of experience). -
Hi everyone, I have a quick question about the usefulness of the McNair Scholars program when it comes to applying to graduate school. Does anyone know how much of a boost (if any) this gives an application? I am currently a McNair Scholar, but the program is extremely frustrating. Deadlines are rarely met, it's catered towards non-STEM majors, and it's a load of unnecessary work ( i.e. annotated bibliographies) considering that I have worked in a lab for an extended period of time. I've been debating dropping the program, because I don't know what kind of reputation it has among Chem departments. Can anyone shed some light on this? Additional information: Junior at a public ivy 1.5 years in electrochemistry lab REU at Northwestern Currently in a polymer lab (had to switch because the PI in my first lab retired after my grad student defended) 1 2nd author publication (JACS), another 2nd author paper in prepartion
