I am a 22 year-old with a passion for museum work. I intend to enter a graduate program in Museum studies beginning fall 2015.
Since I am currently a newbie in a niche field, I tend to ask a lot more questions than give advice on this site. With time, that should change! -

1) The Marvel Movies Franchise They have no real substance and are there to rake in cash and everyone just eats it up. 2) The Kardashians I am tired of seeing Kim's posterior plastered all over the internet once every month. 3) The Hunger Games Series /YA Fiction in General In my experience it is pretty much the same tripe over and over again that is merely repackaged in order to make money. 5) Niki Minaj I just don't think she is that talented.

I am wondering what part-time hours people have kept while they were in Graduate School. I currently work a job that gives me 30-35 hours a week, and I begin classes this fall. My boss has pretty much set the expectation that I should be available to work whenever I am not in class. I will see how the first few weeks go before demanding that my hours be cut back (despite the fact that I am stressing out about it a month in advance, damn my anxiety disorder). However, I am morbidly curious about what hours people have been able to work part-time during their graduate programs? Is there a recommended amount?

I am about to start a Museum Studies program where my focus will be on museum management. In order to get my degree I have to complete an academic core with four graduate courses from outside departments. Since ultimately I would love to work in a contemporary art museum, I thought about taking graduate art history courses as my academic core. However, I could also use up my academic core classes in order to obtain a Certificate in Non-Profit Management, thus making myself more applicable to jobs outside of museums. Does anyone have any ideas about which would option is better? Thank you for your help!

Just wondering if anyone else here will that will begin a Masters and/or PhD program at GWU this upcoming fall. I am enrolled in the Masters in Museum Studies program and am quite excited about it. Feel free to post. I figured this forum could be used for housing, recreational ideas, meet & greets etc.

I am currently deciding between two programs. For the sake of this post is I will call them Program A and Program B. Program A is in San Francisco, and I do not know anyone inside that city except for some of the Professors in the program. The program is short (only fourteen semesters) and thus quite cost effective. It is a new program (I will be a part of its third wave of students if I accept). However, it is quite cutting edge with how they constructed the program (basically asking people in the field I desired to work in and asked them what they wish they learned during grad school). It is a small program which boasts direct student-professor relationships which is very similar to my current undergraduate institution. The program also has a strong commitment to Social Justice, which strongly interests me. While it would be quite a move for me to go there, since I am 22 it is an adventure I can easily accomplish now instead of later. Program B is a prestigious institution in Washington DC, and I live 20 minutes away from the campus. It is an older program and well known in the field with a great relationship with DC area museums. It is a two year program, making it longer and more expensive than Program A. There also seems to be a lot more bureaucracy I would have to navigate and I would not have as close of a relationship with the faculty. It also requires more academically (program A has a project instead of a thesis, while program B wants you to pass an exam as well as write a thesis). So, does anyone have any advice on how to pick between these two schools? Would it be better to play it safe, or be more adventurous?

I submitted both of my applications last Friday (1/30/15). About an hour ago, I received an email stating that I had been accepted for an interview from a Professor in the program. While I am excited, the quick turn around time has me worried.... Is it possible that the program is extremely desperate? Or am I really that desirable?
