I bit the bullet and sent an email... got the old "Whoops forgot to tell you you were rejected, you were a fantastic applicant but blah blah blah" email. It stung a little but it feels good to know. Now I can actually make decisions about other offers!

I'm over a month out from my interview at my top choice. They were super vague about when they were going to let us know. I thought everything went well but now I am starting to question EVERYTHING! I haven't developed an ulcer, but I don't think I have had this many zits since puberty. Stress zits.

I know you are both right, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! Ugh! Lol. Thanks for the input!

After what I thought to be a successful interview, I emailed my POIs and several others that I met with a personalized "thank you" email. Many of them responded in kind, and both of my potential POIs (co-advised position) said they would keep me posted in the coming weeks (or something equally vague). It has now been a month post interview, three weeks post email, and I haven't heard anything. Should I email my POIs? Call the office? Do nothing? If I do email, does anyone have suggestions for what exactly to say? UGH. This is one of my top choices and I feel like I can't accept my other offer until I hear from this school. All opinions appreciated!

Well if you have yet to hear a no, that means there is still hope (at least that's what I keep telling myself- UVM was one of my top choices as well)! And regardless, UCR is a great school- congrats!

I had an interview at UVM for both the bio and plant bio programs in late January and was told I would hear back "in the coming weeks" ... one month later and no word from either program on acceptance/rejection. Either they are really slow or I've been waitlisted. Did you interview at UVM? Also, which program were you accepted into at UC Riverside? I have been accepted there as well.

AHHH! I got an email from my POI at UC Riverside! Unofficially accepted to UCR!!!! So excited!!!
-
^my life right now. This week my POI emailed two of my LOR writers asking to speak on the phone. Then he emailed me with a few more specific questions. One of which was basically "Your grades are great, except these two classes that you sucked in. Please explain." UGH! That is a hard thing to explain without sounding whiny. Anyway, now I just have to sit back and pretend I am not obsessing about the same thing every minute of everyday until I find out.

I am considering UC RIverside and another school for ecological research right now. UC Riverside has, what appears to be, an awesome program. The other program I am looking at is also strong, and they give off the aura of being pretty well endowed. I seem to get the opposite vibe from UCR, but I have no real evidence of it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Bahahaha, truth! The only thing I do these days before drinking coffee is check my email!
-
Is it alright to ask where the interview is at? Did you just find out about it? It seems so late to be hearing about an interview...

I see the difference, and for whatever reason it makes sense. I have made a similar completely unwarranted, but logical to me, distinction: I think of nerds as scholarly types and geeks as more technology/gaming/computer type people. Though those aren't mutually exclusive and I mean neither in a negative way. Also, I too have no idea why I have made that distinction. Lol!
-
What's worse is the people/program totally won my heart. So now I'm over here, of course, imagining the worst. All my POI said was that she would keep me posted "in the coming weeks." If I don't hear by next week I'm gonna find an interesting article to send her so she can see me in her inbox without having to be overtly pesky!
-
Hahahaha, you speak the truth. Though I prefer " Nerd." I know I am being impatient but I am going on 3 weeks post interview without word on acceptance/rejection and my patience is dwindling.
-
I'm so sorry. I know the feeling. I have no idea why you haven't heard anything. This process is so painstaking.
-
I'm glad we can relate. Lol.

Yesterday was my birthday, and to my over-analyzing anxiety-ridden mind that meant I was certain to get a birthday admissions notice, right? That would have been such a great gift. Alas, I did not hear anything. As of today it has officially been 3 weeks since my interview at what they convinced me would be the perfect school/program/PI/town for me, and I haven't heard a peep. The waiting has become the bane of my existence, and logically I know that I should just chill out because I am being ridiculous- but that's not what I have been doing. I spent a couple minutes just randomly yelling indecipherable gibberish in my car before I went into my apartment, and I am now eating leftover birthday cake. I feel slightly better.

This is my life.

I am currently in my undergrad, going through the application/interview process, and trying to write a manuscript for publication. I am surviving doing all of this. But I feel I should emphasize surviving, not thriving. I am pretty glad I have already sent all my transcripts! Ha! Thank goodness I don't have 8 interviews though!

I was told it should be 2ish days after, but in my opinion late is better than never!

Ok that's what I was thinking, but it's always nice to have confirmation. Thank you for the advice BiochemMom!

Interviews for grad school can be exciting and exhausting. The in-house interview I went to was 2 days of straight one on one interviews, with 10+ faculty/post-docs. If I count grad students that I spent a considerable amount on one on one time with, then I interviewed with 14 different people. Here is the problem: I want to send thank you emails and I want them to be personalized. But it seems a little crazy to write up 14 emails when my head is still swimming from meeting so many people. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on the content of thank you emails? Would it be weird to mention that a certain professor's student was very helpful in the thank you to the professor? Thanks for any help!

Ecological sciences and engineering interdisciplinary program at Purdue. Would likely have Forestry and Natural Resources as home department.

There are barely any EEOB (or other related programs) acceptance/rejection postings! Is this because there are not many EEOBers on grad cafe or are EEOB admissions committees slower then everyone else? Uggghhhh the waiting is killing me!
