  1. I find that to be unlikely. Yesterday they told someone who posted back that the acceptance process would go on over many days, and relatively few people have posted Berkeley acceptances on the results page yet.
  2. I just posted the University of Chicago acceptance. I've had a very lucky two days! From the looks of the e-mail (and the fact that there's no other U Chicago posting yet though the email was sent two hours ago), I doubt they sent all the acceptances at once.
  3. I posted that, curufinwe. I received it just an hour ago or so, which came as a (very good!) surprise as I thought they were done accepting. pablo, Berkeley did tell someone else who contacted them that they would sent out their emails over the course of a few days (see a few pages up), so good news could still come.
  4. I called the University of Chicago to find out when their admission week-end is (not that I have reason to think I'm in, I'm just trying to do some minimal planning as to when I might travel in case I get good news). I was told it was March 12th. And I was also told... decisions could come "within the next day or so".
  5. I just received an email from Berkeley telling me I was accepted! Needless to say, I'm ecstatic - especially as I likely got bad news from Northwestern and thought the same about UCB this morning. (Also: The email came many hours after this morning's posters, which confirms they are doing this slowly and not at once, so no one despair!)
  6. Well into next week -- are they trying to cause heart failures?! Can't they make sure to respond at least within 2 days - or at least within the same week!? Thanks for contacting them Fromark!
  7. Someone called on Friday and was told they would send out decisions within the next few weeks, I believe. I'm not saying that's actually what they'll do, but that appears to be the official story they've decided to tell callers up until they start sending decisions. But still, new information is always nice! So if anyone is willing to call Berkeley, that'd be great too!
  8. I'll cling to that hope until a theory person writes that they've been accepted, as that hasn't happened just yet! But I'm still trying to accept the fact that I'm probably out of that one. Megan, what's your subfield again?
  9. Thanks a lot for emailing Northwestern. Not that I have hope left for them, but do let us know when you hear something. It'd probably be silly to already call Berkeley today to try and figure out whether they've sent out all admissions, but ughhhhh. And thanks for the info Cicero, congrats again!
  10. Congrats to those who've been accepted! Was it a departmental email or an email from the head of a subfield? I am guessing the fact that it was sent at 6:30am PT means it was a mass email, so probably a bad sign for those (including me) who didn't hear? UCB was my top choice, so shitty way to start the day.
  11. I've often heard that schools are reluctant to accept students who have gone there for their undergraduate studies, in the sense that professors like to meet new students and also that it is recommended for students to diversify their contacts. I still applied to the place I went to college for, and I don't want how much this is true and how much it's just the urban legend of boards like this, but this might explain why you might not have been accepted despite your strong qualifications!
  12. I'm sorry about your very rough day. This is clearly an insanely competitive year, and you still have many schools to go so don't lose faith!
  13. Going 0-6 has to be brutal, however, so let's give the poster a break... though yea obviously very excessive. Also, for all those who got rejected from Duke, it is very possible that the department is accepting a smaller cohort this year... The Philosophy Department, for instance, entirely closed its applications this year (as in they aren't accepting anyone), so perhaps there was a general effort to reduce the number of students...
  14. Wow I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds like a terrible experience... I wish Northwestern also sent out official letters so I can officially cross it off my list.

  16. curufinwe, you wrote that you had been rejected from Northwestern. Is that just based on your not hearing from them on Thursday or did you actually get a rejection? (I know that most of the evidence points to Northwestern being done, but one can still hope...) Based on last year, Berkeley could indeed send a few responses at the end of this week but it's cutting it close. Yale demonstrated last week that if we expect every school to respond at the same time as last year we are setting ourselves up for disastrous stress!
  17. Haha! I know what you mean. Every time I leave my computer for many hours I come back convinced I have to have received some response from some school... and of course there's nothing. Only one of the schools I applied to appears to have sent out any responses at this point, so all of my stress has been for nothing for now. Hopefully there'll be some action this week? Also, I see someone just posted having been accepted to Yale on Thursday via e-mail, though I think someone contacted the Yale office on Friday and they said there wouldn't be formal responses for a week or two?
  18. Sorry to hear that... Good luck elsewhere! So much for Yale sending out notices today/this week? It's 4:30 in New Haven and still nothing to the results page.
  19. Congrats to all those who got in Northwestern! I second the question as to whether it was a personal email or a mass email?
