  1. Accepted to George Washington, but without funding! wink.gif

Looks like a mass email, "The department's admissions committee ranked close to 400 applications this year. The pool was one of the most competitive we have ever had. Our goal is a diverse class of about 15 top-notch students."

Ditto. It sounds troubling though. How can we go there without full funding? :(

Anyway, I agree it will be the final week before this board goes into hibernation for the next six months *nostalgic*

  3. Well, I don't know if anyone is following the gruesome car accident unfolding at the job rumors site. Let this be a lesson (among other things) not to ask that board to help you arrive at an admission decision.

    Oh come on. It's not that big a deal. I wouldn't care if I were R/C. :D

I wish I could really believe that WashU isn't done accepting... :( (Does "sending out letters" mean good ol' snail-mail, or email?)

Anyone know what's going on with Colorado? Are they accepting, rejecting, waitlisting? I mean C'MON, I just want to know...

Repeat after me, WUSTL isn't done accepting. Do that for like 100 times, then you will really believe it

  5. I also applied to JHU and emailed today to ask what was up with decisions. The response I got was "letters should be going out this week." This makes me somewhat concerned that if we haven't heard anything, we might be receiving a rejection letter. At the same time, it doesn't seem like very many people posted acceptances (or any wait lists for that matter) ...

We saw two reported results and only one claim on this board. I mean, who knows. Let's hang in there :)

  6. So, what's the deal with JHU and Colorado? JHU needs to send out their decisions already! (Please, please, please...anyone know anything about anything out there on this here forum!? :D ) And, what's the deal wth Colorado? I haven't heard anything, and, when I called, the very nice graduate admissions assistant said that I "haven't been accepted yet." Is this an unoffical waitlist?--like the results board indicates, she said, there were a handful of admits already and they will be visiting, and that I "should expect to hear by April." What does it all mean!? :P

I second an inquiry into the situation of JHU? What's going on on the Baltimore front?:lol:

  7. Actually, I told you before that, as long as the financial part is secured, you should take the MA. But you really need to consider if this insane application market will get any better in a year (I assume it was a one-year program). All the schools report unprecedented increase in the number of applicants and being aware of what is going on, you might want to just take Wisconsin-Madison's offer. I mean, it is no Harvard, but knowing how the market is, would you take the risk? What if things get worse next year?

Sorry for sounding bitter. That's what happens when, at this time of the year, one doesn't have any acceptances :)

Plus, with a Ph.D. from Wisconsin-Madison, you might possibly end up being a University Professor at Harvard :P

  8. Hi Judith,

I'm not applying to UMN, so I think I can be called neutral. When I read APGradApplicant's post, I was a no point thinking that he was imitating you with the last sentence. Also, posting your message on the board and spreading the word will probably reduce the number of e-mail enquiries you get until Monday afternoon - so don't be too hard on him/her .

Plus, APGA is such a joy and a great source of moral support for many of us around here. :P

  9. I wonder if they will accept earlier and then process the rejections on Monday. This is the only school left that I might consider over my current acceptance. It'll be nice to have this part done.

That was exactly my suspicion. They will send out acceptances on Friday, close their office and stop checking emails during the weekend, and then come back and send out all rejections by Monday. :D

  10. So, yesterday I posted a seemingly innocuous question on this thread. "does anyone have any info on Cornell?" Twentyish minutes later (according to future posters) Cornell sent out admit notifications. Sadly I did not get one.

Now, I'm not implying that correlation = causation, but with the way this process works, who knows. Let's see if my magic skillz work again.

Does anyone know anything about Brown?

PS RE: the Columbia discussion. I finally logged into the Columbia application to check my status form, and it said Completed and Yes (at the department). However, I wouldn't read much into the timing of these updates. I would bet that updating these things is pretty low on the priority list.

Tut-tut, magic skills should not be overused

[whispering] Could you try with Johns Hopkins by the way? ;)

  11. Yeah, I can't stand the way some schools just let the rejected students sit around. If it weren't for gradcafe forum, I'd be uber-pissed off!

As regulars on here have observed, I'm pretty pushy about rejections anyhow. 3/4 of mine have been the result of my e-mailing the dept after waiting at least a week after the first round of admits have come out. In each case, I confirmed my suspicion (UCSD was the only one so far that had the courtesy to take care of the rejects same day as every1 else).

And as far as I can see, UNC-CH is still playing that game with people who've been waiting patiently a month now. (Throws hands up in the air...)

  12. So seems like we're entering the penultimate week of "high season" for the admissions cycle. Perhaps some rejection, waitlist notices, and (at a few schools) acceptances will be sent out second week of March, but it seems like the last week of Feb will be the next-to-last BIG week. It seems that based on forecasting from the info we've collected and/or last year's patterns, we should hear this week from:

    MIT (acceptances only?)

Notre Dame (unless they're really finished, which I doubt)

Harvard (best of luck to those who applied!)

    More from Columbia?

UCLA (can't imagine this weekend covered all admits...)

Anyhow, it shouldn't be a week that fails to stress us out, lol (sorry about the double negative wink.gif )

Definitely am rooting for everyone here, including the people competing against me. If this board has helped reassure me of anything, it's that if I don't get a spot at my remaining schools (and thinking, too, about the ones that have already rejected me...), I at least have the peace of mind that (with only a few exceptions) there will be some friendly and no doubt very bright students who will be attending these various institutions. Again, best of luck to all!

Why do I always find your posts very soothing to read? :)
