  1. I just got a status update on the NYU Albert page, with a scholarship of $8,000 and work study of $3,000. I haven't received any emails yet about looking over my appeal, or getting an email about my financial aid status, so I'm trusting that Brendon is right and that we'll hear back about appeals this week. :)

Okay. So you just gave me a sliver of hope. I applied to the OYR program and their deadline is April 1st. So I am hoping that they start looking at apps by late March early April for this program.

Yeah don't lose hope! I also applied mid December, so it took quite a bit of time to get the turn around as well! Good luck!

Thank you tudor! Did you send an email to the general admissions email or any specific one? X

Hi! Looking through my email, it looks like I sent the message to general admissions (gssadmission@fordham.edu)

  4. Congrats Opt! I did ask for an extension from Fordham and they gave me an additional month. They're very nice about it, so I wouldn't hesitate if I were you. Worst thing they can do is say no, but given how helpful they've been, I'm sure they will.

  5. Received my financial aid info... unfortunately isn't nearly enough to make me consider attending. :( I received a "general" scholarship, but no work-study. I've submitted my FAFSA, so I'm not sure if that is what affects the amount I would receive for work-study?

    Hey guys,

What you need to do is email silver.financialaid@nyu.edu and say that you would like to appeal for more scholarship money. They will reply to you with an appeal form and you'll fill that out and submit it. The appeal form they send you is a link, so it takes no more than 5-10 minutes.

Thank you so much! I just sent them an email, so hopefully they'll respond soon!

I was offered $12,000/yr but I sent an appeal form in a couple of days ago for more $$.

    Hey Brendon,

Did you just send an email to the financial aid department, or is there an appeal form that I could fill out?

  8. I've all but locked down NYU. I'm still waiting on Columbia's financial aid package, and whether Hunter might give me an interview, but since I'll be living with relatives and NYU's financial aid package compared to Fordham's and Yeshiva's, it's a better program fit for me and was my first choice. The tuition still is pretty hefty, but I'm hoping that I'll get some work study and apply to more scholarships to help the costs.

  9. I honestly didn't have the quintessential volunteer experience needed for social work. I did a lot of mentoring in college and after college I did a lot with eating disorder awareness. Looking back, I probably could (and probably should have) done more, but since my interest is with mental health, I think it's worked out. My GPA is also much lower than your friend's- I think his chances are quite good right now.

Of course, the more experience he gets the better, but I think universities can tell when you're padding your resume rather than doing something because you care about it.

@tudor3x8 did they state so in your award email? They sent me a follow up email stating "By now you should have received an email awarding you a scholarship. Please note that the amount listed is the TOTAL for the academic year, which includes both the fall and spring semesters. This award is not per semester...etc.." I am wondering if it is renewable?

Not in the award email. I contacted the financial aid department directly, and they told me that it is renewable as long as I remain a full-time student in good standing. I would contact them to confirm though- I'd assume it's the same for us all, but I'm not positive.

Wow this program sounds so interesting and I agree that whoever join this program would have a bandwidth to work at least part time during the academic year. Thanks again Tudor for explaining to us.

Of course! We all got to share whatever useful information we have. :) Yeshiva's program is definitely underrated (or perhaps just not well known?), and I'd hope that future applicants would be able to take a look at this program in the future.

Congrats Tudor! Can you tell us a bit more about the Summer Block Program? I wonder what it is. Is it a two year program starting in Summer this year?

Thanks! It's a program where you complete your courses in the summer and do your fieldwork during the academic year. I was interested in it because then I could work in during the academic year, which she said was the reason that many students chose the program. You'd do three summers in class and two academic years of fieldwork.
