  1. Best of luck to everyone applying!

Remember, if this is what you want to do, the first round of rejections mean nothing. I got rejected from all 8 places the first time I applied to grad school. I learned a lot from that (both what I want, and what programs want from me) and the second time around was the charm.

  2. Accepted my offer today. Relieved and scared at the same time about what's to come, but mostly excited! I also turned down a few schools so hopefully anyone on their waitlists can have some relief now.

Well, are you in the same time zone as them? I remember I had 3 or 4 faculty in my interview - scheduling to get them all in a room at the same time for however long can't be easy, and is probably near impossible during regular office hours.

Yes that's the thing we are practically neighbors lol

  4. Waitlisted at Princeton. Not surprised, will fight it and hope for the best!

Edit: Sorry, to clarify, not surprised meaning I wasn't expecting to get in outright, but I'm very very happy I got placed on the waitlist at least and still have a chance!

Does anyone happen to know if UC Berkeley has sent out acceptances (for any disciplines) yet? I've seen the rejections on the board from late January (sorry for those).

Any idea when the rest of us will hear something? Or how their process works in general?

Hi Shhh, I heard news/rumors from a trusty friend that Berkeley has sent out acceptances for HnL and Ethno already.

    Rejection #3. :(

    Hang in there Felagund :(

I received 8 rejections last year and am now on my second round, and have just received my first acceptance.

All those other rejections don't matter, as long as one takes you!!

  7. Well, if last year's notification dates can be trusted, this coming week may be the time we will be hearing from UC Berkeley. Any fellow applicants needlessly checking their status page every single day?

  8. Hi everyone!

Thought it would be nice to share our collective angst as we wait for our applications to PhD programs in Musicology to be evaluated. I've submitted all of mine (6) and am trying to not look at the application status page everyday, and failing. Is everyone else done with their applications, and if so, has anyone heard anything back yet? (interviews?)

  9. After these past two months juggling waitlists, I unfortunately was not admitted to any program that I could afford attending. I'm going to take a year off and pursue other passions and apply again next year. Congratulations to all of you with dazzling acceptances! It was great interacting with you and sharing in our crazy application times. To those of you staying on for next year as well, see you on this board in a couple of months!

  10. Thanks all! The encouragement really helps.

It looks like I'll be headed to Case Western. It isn't my dream school, I'll admit. But I need to remind myself that I had good reasons for applying in the first place, and I should be very grateful that I got in. There are some awesome scholars there with whom I look forward to working, and the community of grad students seems really supportive and great. And Cleveland might be a cool town? Or at least have its points.

We're all at the time of the season where it's easy to spend a lot of energy thinking about what might have happened or what we should have done to get where we dreamed of going. Trying to focus on the great things ahead and not get too hung up on all that jazz. So if I start to get too wistful (Two roads diverged &c &c) somebody pinch me or something.

Squank feel free to PM me if you wanna talk about Cleveland! I live about half an hour away.

  11. @HelloThisIsDog I'm waiting for Comp Lit at Stanford and I'm full of angst and excitement! Going out of my overexcited, overanxious, overactive mind! I was told a couple of days ago that the waitlist is only two people long and that two people hadn't yet responded to their offers. I just saw (via social media) that one of those people turned her Stanford offer down! Eek. I think the other waitlisted person is ranked ahead of me but I know he has other interesting offers so it's quite possible he'd turn Stanford down. Unless he already has and the other person on the waitlist is someone else! Gahhh, so many thoughts.

Ahhh congratulations on that knowledge! My DGS hasn't said much and I'm afraid of being too forward should I ask. Best of luck and keep us updated!

  12. I just turned down offers from Harvard and Yale this afternoon - I was the only medievalist in Harvard's admitted cohort of 12, so I hope that means they'll be drawing someone off the waitlist!!

    Congratulations on Berkeley!

I assume you've turned down your spot in the English program, not Comp Lit correct?

I'm on the Comp Lit waitlist and I'm dying to hear back soon :)
