Best of luck to everyone applying! Remember, if this is what you want to do, the first round of rejections mean nothing. I got rejected from all 8 places the first time I applied to grad school. I learned a lot from that (both what I want, and what programs want from me) and the second time around was the charm.

That's a very discouraging premise you're starting with Lehrer! The schools you listed are not anywhere among the most prestigious - and you are also missing the entire east coast. What part of your undergraduate training +6 years of teaching makes you feel you are so unprepared?

Accepted my offer today. Relieved and scared at the same time about what's to come, but mostly excited! I also turned down a few schools so hopefully anyone on their waitlists can have some relief now.

UPenn's program secretary asked me to take the interview at around 8am, isn't that odd? Does the faculty want to be up and going that early?

I wonder if Harvard's decision comes out in waves? Is anyone familiar with their process? They accepted like 6 applicants last year so it might be that they didn't all come out at once?

Waitlisted at Princeton. Not surprised, will fight it and hope for the best! Edit: Sorry, to clarify, not surprised meaning I wasn't expecting to get in outright, but I'm very very happy I got placed on the waitlist at least and still have a chance!

If it's any comfort, they haven't received my TOEFL score either but when I emailed and asked they said not to worry about it, it's not like "oh she doesn't have TOEFL score REJECT". It's such a tiny part of the applicant, there for bureaucracy more than anything!

Hi Shhh, I heard news/rumors from a trusty friend that Berkeley has sent out acceptances for HnL and Ethno already.

Yes it is in Comp Lit. I'm surprised and excited for sure! And you never know Wendy! Maybe it comes out in waves.

Hang in there Felagund I received 8 rejections last year and am now on my second round, and have just received my first acceptance. All those other rejections don't matter, as long as one takes you!!

Sending academic messages through email accounts that are not @.edu can look very suspicious for professors. Most of mine would skip over them immediately, especially if it was @hotmail.com!

Well, if last year's notification dates can be trusted, this coming week may be the time we will be hearing from UC Berkeley. Any fellow applicants needlessly checking their status page every single day?

Hi everyone! Thought it would be nice to share our collective angst as we wait for our applications to PhD programs in Musicology to be evaluated. I've submitted all of mine (6) and am trying to not look at the application status page everyday, and failing. Is everyone else done with their applications, and if so, has anyone heard anything back yet? (interviews?) Dog

After these past two months juggling waitlists, I unfortunately was not admitted to any program that I could afford attending. I'm going to take a year off and pursue other passions and apply again next year. Congratulations to all of you with dazzling acceptances! It was great interacting with you and sharing in our crazy application times. To those of you staying on for next year as well, see you on this board in a couple of months!

I emailed my DGS on Sunday asking for an update and she emailed back on Monday saying there will be a meeting on Monday to decide this and she'll keep me updated. She hasn't emailed me yet. Still nervously refreshing my inbox.

Congratulations Enfant!! You have to change that fact on your signature now I really wanted to go to Stanford, but didn't even get waitlisted. I'm counting on my Harvard waitlist now, I'll know for sure in the next day or two!

Is anybody else waiting for Comp Lit at Harvard? I'd love someone to share the angst and excitement if you are! Have anyone been talking to the DGS for updates? I'm afraid of being too repetitive and overbearing.

Congratulations on Berkeley! I assume you've turned down your spot in the English program, not Comp Lit correct? I'm on the Comp Lit waitlist and I'm dying to hear back soon
