  1. kenamet, what programs did you apply to at UofA? I've heard back from them for both Global health and Epi (both MPH, no idea what the timeline is like for MSc)
  2. So I've seen a few people on here who were accepted to UofA's Global Health. did y'all apply to any other UofA program and get in? Anyone get into UofA's epidemiology program? I really wasn't expecting to be accepted to both and am having a really hard time deciding
  3. i interviewed last wednesday and they said they would inform us of their decision "in the next couple of weeks". From that I expect early April. I'm not sure how programs without interviews plan on scheduling it, but I would assume they would release invites/regrets at the same time for all programs for those of us that applied to 2 programs. As for being accepted into two programs, it happened to a friend of mine last year. She was accepted to both of her choices and just picked the one she liked better. Easy peasy.
  4. there are some apartment towers next to the university that have rent prices in the $500-800. they're nothing fancy, but have everything you need and are very close (112st and anywhere between 87 and 83 avenue)
  5. out to sea, i'm pretty sure the invites and invite times were for everybody. I think the shortlist is for the entire applicant pool, not just int'l applicants. From what I've heard the annual intake of GH students is only 10-12 per year. As for filling a canadian quota, I don't believe there is one. See here: https://uofa.ualberta.ca/public-health/programs/admissions/applicant-profile 32% international applicants. Someone else commented on UofA's transparency, and I figure I'd give my two cents. I've been at UofA for 5 years and have applied to various grad/professional programs over a few years and without a doubt UofA is the absolute worst school for transparency. Great programs, not doubt, but it's like pulling blood from a stone to get anyone from admin to directly answer your questions. They don't want to reveal any evaluation criteria, nor do they want to give any sort of timeline. It has been immensely frustrating, especially since most other universities seem to be very accomodating. Pros/cons, I suppose.
  6. hn90, I think only programs that require interviews were notified today (or perhaps only Global Health). Programs that don't require interviews haven't heard back yet (at least not epidemiology)
  7. hfmerc, best of luck with global health! i also applied to GH (2nd choice after epi). from what a couple friends in GH have told me the interview was pretty lax. The way they described it was basically if they're giving you the interview, they're ready to accept you. they're just confirming you're not a psychopath. they were given notice of the interview so that they could set aside ~20 min in their day. kinda strange though, one friend that was doing the phone interview was literally one floor below the interviewers and offered to come up and speak in person but they declined. keeping an even playing field I suppose. But it seemed like fairly standard interview questions. "why are you interested in field X", "what are you research/work interests", "explain trend in gpa/extracurriculars/etc"
  8. hn90, i applied to UofA this year as well! I thought I was the only one haha I emailed them last week asking when we can expect to hear back and in the classic UofA fashion they were reluctant to say anything but said "we expect applicants to know our decision by the end of april". though, the few friends I have in MPH programs heard back late march-early april last year. as far as I know for interviews, only certain programs require them. Global Health does phone interviews but others have no interview at all (i believe health policy and epi don't).
  9. anyone else here apply to any of UofA's programs? I applied for both an MPH in Epidemiology as well as Global Health. Unfortunately the admissions office says they don't plan on letting people know decisions until mid-end of april!
  10. I'm wondering if anyone on here has applied to or been accepted to any UofA public health programs? I don't know anybody currently in the program and am waiting to hear back; would love to know where I stand relative to historically successful/unsuccessful applicants! If it matters, I applied to 1)Epidemiology, 2) Global Health.
