  1. Does anyone know whether last year Western and U of T sent acceptances, wait lists, and rejections at the same time, or over a few days like these other schools?

I also was wondering whether they send them at midnight or the morning of April 1st?

I have a deadline to accept an offer for another masters program that same day :-x

I'm pretty sure you find out about Western either way at midnight but U of T sends acceptances and wait list emails during the business day, and rejections come in the mail a few days later.

I would explain your situation to the other graduate program. I'm sure they'd be willing to give you a few extra days if you need it.

  2.

I got on the wait list for Alberta! Does anyone know if it's common for people to get in off the waitlist?? I feel like because I'm finding out early it could be a good sign that I'm near the top of the list.

Congrats on the wait list spot :)

I knew two people last year who got in off the wait list, but they didn't find out til mid- and late-May. My sample size is only two, but there's hope nonetheless!

  3. Hi Everyone,

I'm not a current applicant but I was wondering if anyone knows how older prerequisites are treated by grad schools. I completed an undergrad in Linguistics and Biology at UofT in 2005, with a GPA of 3.9. I decided to wait with grad school until my husband and I had our kids. We ended up having four kids  :)  so it's now been more than ten years since I earned my prerequisites. Is it still possible for me to apply?

    Thanks!

I know U of T at least doesn't accept prerequisites that are more than ten years old. You might have to retake a few classes, but you can do that online.

Anyone know why they require this? Seems a bit silly to make someone retake a bunch of courses just because they took them ten years ago. Kinda makes it difficult for people trying for a second career who might bring a lot of great experiences to the table.

  4. Curious how are you all deciding which program to accept

Has anybody made a pro/con list for each school?

Anybody know how Canadian SLP schools and programs rank?

Which school offers the best SLP program in Canada?

    All thoughts/opinions welcome  :)

If I get a choice, as of right now, I'm probably going to decide based on which city I want to live in. This is likely not the best way to go, but I have no idea how I'd even begin to judge which is best for me. I've been lucky enough to visit all the schools I've applied to, and I loved them all/ have no idea which would be the right  choice.

Looking forward to what others have to say about this!

  5. speechies, are you able to apply in the US? More opportunities. Schools near the border tend to accept lots of us.

I thought about applying to American schools, but when I was researching them, I made sure to look at the cost breakdowns. Upon seeing them, I promptly gave up on the idea of going to an American school. They could be a great option for some Canadians, but I simply cannot afford it.

  6. ...but it's worth working on getting into SLP for a few years, if it's what you really want.

Definitely going to try for SLP for few years, but it's just so scary that it might not work out. So many amazing applicants just don't make the cut :(

It's very inspiring to go into threads from past years and see people who've applied year after year and finally made it happen though  :)
