  1. Hey thanks everyone for your replies!
  2. I was accepted for gepphysics at Texas Tech and will be taking Calc 3 and introductory Geophys this fall. How can I best prepare for calc 3? I am a bit nervous to say the least given that my background in calc 1 and calc 2 is not strong at best. I will have two months in July and August to prepare before I arrive there and any lesson plan or something I can follow would be GREATLY GREATLY GREATLY appreciated.
  3. Pleased to say I was offered a full tuition waiver and TA at Texas Tech for a MS in Geosciences w/ a concentration in geophysics!
  4. Still waiting to hear from Ole Miss, CSULB (doubtful, no POI taking students), and UNLV (wait-listed). Still awaiting possible funding for Texas Tech (visiting their campus next week) and CSU Chico. Ugh!
  5. So realistically do a lot of offers go out tomorrow? I was wait-listed at UNLV and am still waiting to hear about funding from some schools I was accepted to
  6. I think each school is different to be honest. If you didn't receive any information regarding possible funding/scholarship I would say you are most likely admitted without financial support at this point...though I could be wrong.
  7. I was accepted at Chico State, waiting on TA info/possible tuition waiver. Anyone familair with the school?
  8. I haven't posted in a while, but I will post an update: I am being flown out to visit one of my prospective schools in two weeks, everything paid for by the school. I was accepted, albeit without funding. I would assume my chances of receiving a financial offer after the April 15 deadline must be high considering they are doing this for me? Thoughts?
  9. Perhaps you will receive second round offers. I applied to 7 schools and am unsure of my status for most of them. Few more weeks and it will all be over.
  10. What about this situation: Undergrad (7 years lol fml): 48k in debt Grad school would cost for two years: College 1:) $12k College 2:) $15k College 3:) $20k College 4:) $30k College 1,2,3 are all for Geology and College 4 is for Geophysics. College 1,2,3 have TAs to help pay you (unsure of monthly amount) while college 4 is waiting for the april 15 deadline to see if they can offer me funding. Thoughts?!
  11. I am still awaiting to hear back from 4 schools, ready for these decisions (good or bad) to roll in!
  12. Congrats! UC Davis is a top notch school!
  13. Just got rejected at CU Boulder, was my pie in the sky school regardless!
  14. I am wait-listed at UNLV...rough
  15. <30 days until that April 15th deadline and some people, including myself, have not heard back from a lot of schools. Hang tough everyone!
  16. So one must establish one year of residency before applying for in-state tuition is what you are saying? With that said, lets say I go to a Cal State school...the first year I'd pay out of state and then the second year I could pay in-state?
  17. It was 100% my pie in the sky school. I am by no means a "typical" applicant which can explain my lower gpa / gre. I expect to be rejected. I haven't whined about the school, I have stated that waiting is awful and that I haven't heard back from them or my POI there yet and asked questions on how to respond to said situations.
  18. I am still waiting to hear from my POI at Colorado (Boulder) who I was in constant contact with for ~2 years. He's been silent for several months now. I anticipate my GRE scores are holding me back (150/155/5.0). FWIW my CV is absolutely phenomenal. I've taught 2 labs (Full TA), SI for 8 courses (10 after this semester), 5 abstracts 3 invited research conferences, TONS of outreach (fills up a whole page), lots of research experience (3 years), minor in geochemistry, and have received 3 scholarships: 2 from NASA and 1 from an oil donor at my school. Not trying to brag, just hoping that this CV puts my lower GRE and GPA (3.3) into perspective for my POIs/Programs I applied to. I also have applied to 4 schools now, got into 1 with no funding, wait-listed at another. This waiting is awful!!
  19. I haven't received anything formally, but I happened to check the UNLV application page (not the MYUNLV page) and it says that I was rejected. I emailed my POI to confirm as they sounded very optimistic about me attending. They stated in an email that "our graduate admissions committee has met, and some decisions have been made, but we are still waiting on updates for funding to know how many more students can be admitted". That email was from 3 days ago and I just checked the website now. Does this mean I am completely rejected from attending or is it possible that I am still wait-listed? I assume completely rejected..
  20. Yeah I'm hoping for positive news from all institutions this week!
  21. I was in contact with my POI for a while and have not heard back from him/her in the past 3 months or so (At Boulder). Few emails have been sent to them as well. Interesting, hoping to hear back some positive news soon!
  22. Anyone hear from Colorado re: masters?
  23. I have a feeling these next two weeks will be very busy for those of us still awaiting responses.
