  1. Thank you! What a relief, hoping to hear back from Colorado and UNLV asap! Good luck to all that are waiting!
  2. I was just accepted into Texas Tech although funding is unclear at this point! Excited!!
  3. I emailed my POI a few days ago and they responded before I received this email. My status on the application has not changed either so I presume it was a general email sent out.
  4. So does this mean, for me specifically, that they will await to see what the first tier candidates do with their responses before sending out further acceptances/declines?
  5. Checked my app, decision is still pending...why would they send me that?! ^^^^^
  6. I just received a general email from UNLV, does this mean I was accepted?: Thank you for submitting your application to the UNLV Graduate College. We are excited that you are interested in pursuing your post-baccalaureate education at UNLV. As a token of our appreciation, we would like to invite you to our Open House for prospective graduate students that will take place on Monday, April 27th, 2015, from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The event will be begin in the Student Union Room #208 on the campus of UNLV. For a map of campus, please visit: http://www.unlv.edu/maps. This will be an opportunity for you to meet your potential professors, discover ways to get involved through the GPSA (Graduate and Professional School Association), and get to know our campus and our community of graduate scholars. UNLV has more than 125 outstanding graduate programs and more than 800 graduate faculty; we want you to get to know who we are and what we do to support our graduate students. We will send more specific information as the event gets closer. In the meantime, if you plan to attend, please RSVP at http://goo.gl/L6rxwxby Friday, April 17th. For additional information, please contact the Executive Director of Graduate Student Services, Valarie Burke, at valarie.burke@unlv.edu, or our Graduate Recruiter and CRM Specialist, Sebern Coleman, at sebern.coleman@unlv.edu. If you have any questions about your admissions application, please contact our Graduate Admissions team at GradAdmissions@unlv.edu. Thank you and we hope to see you at our Open House!
  7. And just to throw into the mix, I am still awaiting decisions @ UC Boulder, UNLV, and Texas Tech in case any of you are waiting to hear from them as well
  8. Just heard back from my POI at UNLV. He/She informed me that the grad committee has met and that SOME decisions have been made. They are awaiting an update to funding to see how many more students they will be accepting. I presume this means top tier candidates were sent acceptances and that they are waiting to hear back to see how many new acceptances they should be mailing out? I am quite hopeful for UNLV since my POI has funding!
  9. As just an FYI, if its possible to be accepted after applying this late I would go through the process immediately. Please let me know what everyone thinks asap. My professors are already gone for the day so I am not able to consult with them.
  10. With that deadline in a week, wouldn't it be too late if we haven't been in contact with a POI there? As I have stated in this thread, I applied to UNLV, Boulder, and Texas Tech but it appears I will not be accepted to any of them (3.25-3.3 gpa, 305 combined GRE). Is SDSU outside of my available schools this late in the game?
  11. That is very disheartening to hear that you believe we most likely did not get in or were wait listed by now. I am holding out hope.
  12. I sent my POI the email I had written up there. We shall see!
  13. What would be an appropriate way to email a POI regarding a timetable for a response regarding admission? I would like it to be brief and formal but somewhat casual (if that is possible?!) "Dear Dr. X, I hope that your semester is going well. I just wanted to see if there was a status update regarding admission for the fall of 2015, or when admissions are expected to be sent out. I am eagerly awaiting results and am looking forward to the prospect of progessing my studies under your tutelage @ X university. I look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, xxxxx" Thoughts?
  14. SedRocks, I met with them at GSA in Vancouver and they said they were actively looking to fill graduate positions. I came away with the impression that they were lacking in applicants.
  15. I applied to Boulder as my "pie in the sky" application. Would love to attend classes there. However, I am a bit realistic and understand my score to be low. Personally, I am thinking UNLV may be my best option at the moment with Texas Tech second. I met with advisors at national GSA from their booth and got in contact with several of their faculty members. I know that my GRE is low but I am hoping the rest of my application are enough. PS I should mention that I had a life altering event affect my GPA (terminal illness) that was expanded upon in my statement of purpose. I spent 4-5 months working on my SOP alone seeking edits from professors in other depts. here that I am close with all in the hopes of explaining my plight in simple yet in depth detail. I must say, the wait for these responses is awful. Hoping to hear back soon.
  16. Also meant to say that I have been an official TA for 1 year (Astronomy and Historical Geology) and have been a SI for 7 classes
  17. I applied to U of Colorado Boulder, UNLV, and Texas Tech. 3 years research experience, very strong CV (lots of abstracts/outreach), strong LORs. Thoughts on my chances at these institutions given my applicaiton info below? I have had contact with POIs for each school. Undergrad Institution: State school, nothing special Major(s): Geoscience Minor(s): Geochemistry GPA in Major: ~3.34 Overall GPA: 3.3 upon graduation and 3.25 at application time Position in Class: near top Type of Student: domestic GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 155 V: 150 W: 5.00
