  1. Hey everybody! I got my news and just wanted to post that sappy farewell post that seems to be the tradition. Dammit, I wanted this to be sarcastic, but y'all are great and without this forum I think I would have pulled out all my hair. Thanks so much. And I'm rooting for everyone still waiting to hear! Agh, feelz. Alright, with that, I'll just pull a reverse Galadriel and diminish into the East.

  12. biggest email notification disappointment so far: 9am monday morning email is a notification that my debit card was just used in mexico to buy 800 dollars of merchandise at an amusement park. fraud. sigh. now i have no money for a week until the bank gets me a new card. but if i just got some good fulbright news i wouldn't need food, my happiness would sustain me.
  13. condolences to our sweden and portugal applicants today. can we please get a truckload of good news dumped on us now to get us thru the weekend?
  14. have there been no notifications this week?! did i miss some? either way thursday and friday: u better deliver!
  15. thank you for sharing all your waiting-it-out nerves. just thought i'd share my new anxiety over what seems like good news, but to me is totally nerve wracking. no one in my life seems to understand, but i feel like you guys will. i just found out i got a blakemore fellowship to study mandarin in taipei for a year. of course it's not the fulbright research grant that i am still waiting for where the year would be dedicated to my dissertation project. but at least it's something to do next year besides sobbing over my diplomas on my parents' couch. anyway i have to tell them if i'm taking the fellowship by april 15th. so now i'm really praying to all the fulbright gods that these taiwan notifications go out before then! i'm not a betting man, so i would have to go with the sure thing. but then how awful would if be if i found out i got the fulbright on say.... april 16th and had to decline..... okay. it's been like 2 minutes composing this message. i have to go check my inbox...
  16. Where'd you get the application numbers for this year? Weren't they last updated in January 2014 on the Fulbright website? Am I missing a page of data I could be over-analyzing and obsessing over!? (Also I love the random statistics and magical thinking that this group comes up with. Amazing)
  17. alright. i think it's time to end today's watch. next shift begins at 9am.....
  18. finally the weekend is over and the workweek is back! time to get back to working on my email-refresh induced repetitive stress disorder!
  19. thanks cloudysky16! like jadesg1 i was suffering from a lack of fresh reading material. (i thought i was the only one who neurotically read my own Fulbright essays and country page before bed.)
  20. dear fulbright false deity/idol(s), could you please bestow us with some friday acceptances to get us through the weekend? pretty please? mkay, coolthxbye
  21. interview for chinese on thursday, the 12th! anybody else out there? what could they want to talk to us about for 20 minutes? hmmm....
  22. Yay to the first two accepted! Hoping we get another batch before the weekend... Austria, Finland, UK, which country gonna be next?!
  23. Wow, Thanks RRachel1! Very helpful at relieving my plane purchasing anxiety. Best of luck to you during this period of waiting!
  24. Hey guys, I need to buy a plane ticket soon to go to a conference in Asia, but if (knock on wood) I get the Fulbright and there is a Taiwan orientation in D.C. it's going to be hella extra expensive to get back to the States if I don't book a roundtrip. (Did that make sense? Well anyway I'm so confused about what continent I'll be on this summer I can't figure it out either.) Anywho there is a list of countries under the orientation with all the dates as TBD on the recommended students' page but Taiwan isn't one of those listed. Does that mean there isn't an orientation? I guess I'll have to buy my tickets assuming I didn't get the scholarship (because to do otherwise would be to jinx the whole thing) but just wondering if anyone had the scoop. Hope somebody hears back today! This forum is actually helping me get through my readings. I don't let myself hit refresh on this or my emails until I read at least one journal article. Procrastimotivation! 加油!
