  1. I'm still waffling a bit. I don't think Laurier gives funding and Carleton offered such amazing funding (scholarships, TA position). With Laurier I would still be close to my family and my dad is quite sick so I'm leaning that way. I will decide in the next day or two.
  2. I got the same sentence. Does anyone know anything about the amount of funding Laurier typically offers?
  3. Hi! I will be giving up my spot on that wait list! It could happen!
  4. I've also been offered admission to Laurier as of this afternoon!
  5. My first choices are Laurier and Carleton. Their programs align with my research interests and career goals. If I were to get into Laurier I would have to weigh my decision carefully. It is closer to home and I would therefore be closer to my family and friends, but Carleton has offered amazing funding and a TA position so there's that to consider. Congratulations on your acceptance! I may be seeing you in the fall!
  6. Thanks! I didn't receive an email but I see now that I have been accepted to the Thunder Bay campus for HBSW.
  7. Has anyone yet to hear back from Lakehead about the HBSW?
  8. Administration is notoriously slow and sometimes unhelpful. Sometimes has taken me multiple attempts to get information. I think you should email again. NOTE: I'm a current undergrad.
  9. I can give you the information of the Grad program coordinator. He was very helpful when I had questions.
  10. It still says no decision yet on myfile and I was notified by email.
  11. I'm trying to log into ROSI and encountering problems. Is your student number the same as your applicant number? If not, where would I have received my student number? EDIT: Never mind I figured it out.
  12. Yesterday I received an acceptance to York... for the advanced standing program. I had to email them and tell them that they had something mixed up on their end because I applied for the two year program. They gave me the funding and everything. How do you screw up so badly? Around here we call that getting "York'd". Get used to it all those who attend there. I've been here forever and it's a common occurrence.
  13. Hello! I was at York for my last degree during the previous strike which lasted for 3 months before the government enacted back to work legislation. In order to compensate for the lost time, the school term was extended into the summer. What this meant was if you received a conditional offer of acceptance into another program, your acceptance would not be confirmed until your final grades were in. It did not affect whether you were offered admission, however. EDIT: I'm also at York now, completing a degree and affected by this strike. Not happy about it but standing in solidarity with CUPE 3903. Contract faculty and TAs working conditions affect the quality of our education.
  14. York likely to go on strike this week as well. JSYK. Not sure how that might disrupt any other administrative matters.
  15. How much funding did they give you? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the cost of living in Ottawa for two years.
  16. Admissions committees will check if your references are tenured (if they are professors). I believe they weigh them more heavily if they are.
  17. I'm so sorry! Did you complete the statistics requirement? They are very particular about that.
  18. I've noticed that the majority of posters seem to really have their hearts set on either U of T or Laurier. What is it about these programs, in your opinion, that makes them better than the rest? One of my references and longtime mentors told me that U of T is stifling conservative and that I would not fit in there after having received my undergrad at York. EDIT: I'm not criticizing any programs. I genuinely want more information.
  19. CONGRATULATIONS!! Perhaps I'll be seeing you in Ottawa! @purplegrey fingers crossed for you!
  20. They have you fill out a TA profile and you suggest the courses that you would be willing to and competent to TA for. I looked at their course calendar and selected sociology courses that I performed well in and in subjects I am well informed about - I selected classical theory, qual. and quant. research methods, and health sociology.
  21. Hi all! New poster here but have been following the feed for some time. I've applied for the two year MSW to Carleton, Laurier, U of T, and York, and received an offer of admission to Carleton on the 20th. I've been accepted with the condition that I receive at least a B in Statistics (which is not a problem). Does anyone live in Ottawa and know anything about Carleton and their program? I feel that it is the best fit for me (structural) as someone who is interested in public policy but only know what is written on their website. They have offered me full funding with a TA-ship so I'm extremely inclined to accept this offer. It expires in 21 days. My family is hoping that I attend Laurier but I have to do what is best for me. Any advice? Thanks everyone and good luck!
