  1. Hi Everyone, I am one quarter away from finishing my master's thesis and graduating with my master's degree in EE/CE (Embedded Systems/Reconfigurable Computing focus). The professor that I've been RAing for has told me that he is willing to write me a very good letter of recommendation, which along with my stats should give me a good chance at any PhD program I choose. So now I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I've really enjoyed working with this professor and he has helped me tremendously (advising me through undergrad and funding my MS). I can continue at my current institution should I choose (with funding), but I'm not sure if I should look elsewhere for my PhD. Firstly, all 3 of my degrees would be from the same institution if I stay and I realize that is frowned upon in academia. Secondly, the school I am currently attending is ranked in the mid-twenties and I'd really like to attend one of the top 10 (maybe top 5) schools for the opportunities that it may bring. I am trying to justify a decision and I will probably be applying to all schools of interest anyways, but I'd really appreciate it if you guys can provide me some advice/insight on what you would do in my situation.
  2. Hi guys, I'm currently a first year grad student (MS) in EE in a tier 1 university, and I've recently been offered a summer internship with Cisco systems under their Choice program. The position I would be taking is Software Engineer II. The recruiter offered me $22.50/hr on the phone, which seemed to be significantly lower than other grad students that I've spoke to, and would seem on par for an undergrad. In fact, my office mate was offered $30.00/hr just this past summer for a Hardware Engineer II intern position. I'm now questioning if she made a mistake. Do any of you guys have any experience interning at Cisco? How much should I be expecting for a EE graduate student internship?
  3. It took me 1 Email, 2 messages, and 6 phone calls to finally get someone to pick up. Just keep calling!
  4. Yep, the deadline of my program was definitely around Dec 1st as well. I finally was able to reach someone at their admissions department, and my application hasn't even been processed yet, even though I received my acceptance from the department a month ago! I asked if there is a time line as to when I can expect the final package, and was told no. This is getting ridiculous, I have offers from others schools and their deadlines are all coming up. EDIT Just got in touch via Email with someone from my department. They actually called me back right away and sounded concerned that my application was still not processed. They are now looking into it directly. I'd suggest contacting your departments!
  5. I received my admission email to the Computer Engineering MS program almost a month ago, but still haven't received a postal admission package. I sent an Email to SEAS grad admission a week ago with no reply, and I've called twice now with no one answering, or calling back from my messages. What is going on?!
  6. Nope, I'm a domestic student. It's been more than 3 weeks since my initial acceptance and still no mail. sigh
  7. Hey guys, I'm a Master's applicant to Columbia's EE/CE program. Like many of the Columbia applicants on the bulletin, I received notice of admission via Columbia's website/E-mail around 3/3. I've noticed that a few people received their postal packages more than a week ago, and I have yet received mine. What could this mean? Since we were accepted at around the same time, could this delay be attributed to a possible funding offer?
  8. Hey guys, I'm in a similar situation. I'm a MS Electrical/Computer engineering student, and here are the three choices I'm choosing between: 1) UW-Seattle. RA with $2k/month stipend + tuition waiver 2) Columbia - most likely no funding 3) USC - most likely no funding The choice is probably fairly straightforward, but I don't want to look back 20 years from now and regret losing my chance at experiencing the ivy league education.
