  1. Hi everyone, I decided on the University of London over NYU (my 4-year Canadian funding will actually last for the duration of the program + London has better advisors for my specific interests). I just couldn't rationalize having to re-do my Master's and being in school for another 7 years with everything being so uncertain--I had no idea if the supervisor of my choice would end up working with me, or if they would ever provide adequate funding. I know that this forum is mostly American, but are there any other Canadians going to England? Good luck to everyone
  2. I got an extension from NYU until the 30th--i got my scholarship and am just waiting to see if additional resources from them become available.
  3. NYU says in its letter: "We would appreciate knowing by April 15th whether you intend to accept admission." If they're not offering me money, and I don't yet know about my other funding, why would they require a definite answer? I am going to try to postpone giving them one. Has anyone done this?
  4. Dear the17thscream, That's terrible news! I adore Rosalind Krauss and would have applied to Columbia had I thought there was a chance of working with her! I assumed that she would be retiring.
  5. Thank you for the info. Going to NYU seems risky, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. Who else is going for modern?
  6. Help! I want to give NYU my acceptance, but haven't yet heard about a major foreign scholarship which would be the only thing enabling me to go. Do they give extensions for this kind of thing? I know very little about the system. Also, can someone PLEASE tell me what kind of funding (if any) I would be competing for in the second year? As a foreigner, am I allowed to work? I know it's late, and I should have done this research already, but I am going out of my mind. Another thing--will anyone else be joining the faculty for modern? Is NYU known for being anti-theory? What happens if your potential advisor has no interest in supervising you later on? Thank you in advance.
  7. Is there anyone here from (or going to) the UK? Are UK PhDs valued in the US? the17thscream--if your ideal advisor is at Bryn Mawr, that should tip the scale.
  8. I was asking her about Canadian students applying to American schools (and whether it was best to contact faculty, etc.), and she just said that one of her students got into two great American schools--so I'm assuming it's you. Anyway, congratulations! Good to know that Canadians have a chance.
  9. I hope this doesn't seem creepy, but I've heard about one of you from Wilson (I'm at her current school and I think she's amazing). My ideal program is in London, so I'm hoping that a certain national scholarship comes through. It was kind of disappointing to get into NYU w/o funding, though. Btw, my area is modern/contemporary.
  10. Regarding NYU-IFA, can anyone please let me know what the first year's tuition would be? They are not offering me funding in the first year (only a summer scholarship), which makes sense, considering that I never visited or anything. Is anyone here in the same boat?
