  1. Hey MKS, I'll PM you with that information. Looks like you have had a good amount of interest in your applications based on your acceptances/waitlists. What school are you leaning more toward accepting?

    Sounds good, I'll look for your PM. I'm leaning towards Colorado St. right now, but if I get in to Penn State I am most definitely attending there...from PA originally and would really like to get back. That's one thing I'll warn you about, if you're from the north and you're not used to it down here, it can be a bit exasperating! But Gainesville is much more tolerable than most other cities down here so good luck.

  2. Also, just to add to the mix of comments. One of the best things about Gainesville is that it is relatively close to so many of Florida's bigger metro areas (i.e. Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando). Each of those cities having their own local culture and feel.

    Definitely. Just went to Tampa this weekend from Gville. Hey, who will you be working with here if you don't mind me asking? I guess that goes for everyone accepted to UF...I'm interested in what you guys will be studying and who you'll be working with.

  3. the more i think about it the more foolish it is to give up a great opportunity at UF just to live in a place where i like the local culture and outdoor activities better.

    I don't know your other options as far as outdoor activities, but Gainesville and the surrounding area is actually pretty good as far as that goes. We have a bunch of nature trails and kayak/canoe spots within 20 minutes or so, UF owns its own lake about 15 minutes off campus called Lake Wauberg, where you can rock climb, swim, paddleboat, etc. There are tons of camping and backpacking places within an hour or so drive, all involving backpacking, canoeing, and snorkeling. But if you like skiing, whitewater rafting, and other things like that then obviously it doesn't offer much there. UF does have an organization that plans weekend trips and provides transportation, food, gear and the like all for a very reasonable price. I'm going whitewater rafting in South Carolina next weekend through that organization, so it's a very outdoorsey community with some cool stuff nearby and opportunities to travel elsewhere.

  4. Akron, Maryland, and South Florida...what are their deals? No word yet and it's almost April! I'm sure that means its not good news, but still they should let us know soon I think.

    Everyone know where they want to go yet? Or are they still undecided/up in the air like me?

  5. I had a phone interview with GWU a few days ago and they'll be getting back to me in the coming days. He said they received 110 applicants and are only accepting 2 or 3, and they interviewed about 15 students. They're not having a visitation weekend or anything like that, and he said they wanted to get people's answers before the SIOP conference, sometime in early April.

    I saw someone else was waitlisted at BGSU...so was I. Did they tell you how many people were on it by chance? I met a guy who got in to BGSU during my visitation at Oklahoma, and he isn't going to BGSU he said. So that opens up one spot!

  6. Thanks for all the advice guys. I've decided to email my two POI at Penn State not so much to ask where I stand/how many people are on the list, but more so updating them on what I've been doing lately and basically to re-emphasize my desire to go there. Since it was so long ago that I actually applied, I figured that simply updating them would look good and it would make sense, plus it would get my name in their heads I guess.

    I got waitlisted at another program and I did ask where I stand/how many on the list...no response yet. Have a good spring break everyone!

  7. Hi everyone. GBear, congrats on Roosevelt and Mks, congrats on the Penn State waitlist (I know that is your top choice!). Do you know what position you are?

    I have also applied to GW, but have not heard anything from them yet.

    I did however find out that I have been rejected from George Mason (via postal) and accepted at CUNY (via phone). Busy day!

    Thanks and congrats to you to on CUNY! That's awesome; were they high on your list?? And did you apply for MA or PHD at GMU? I don't know where I am on the waitlist, and I'm actually wondering if it is beneficial or an annoyance if I were to email a couple of professors at PSU to re-emphasize how much I would love to attend. I want to go there for so many personal reasons I can't even begin to explain, but I feel like it would be an annoyance to blabber on about it to them. Ahh this is nerve-wracking.

  8. Just found out i've been wait listed at UCONN

    Rejected at LSU (they never got my transcript- how can an undergrad institution screw up so bad?)

    Accepted at Roosevelt University in Chicago

    Havent heard from:

    Ohio University

    George Washington

    Clemson

    Harvard

    NC State

    UNC Charlotte

    Old Dominion

    Akron

    Looks like i'm a real bubble candidate.

    OU said they would have all letters out by the end of February... bad news i haven't heard anything yet? Anyone else hear from any of those schools? Or want to decline an offer at UCONN for that matter ;)

    Hey GBear. I haven't heard back from any of those schools except George Washington, I just got an email today and we're setting up a phone interview. Hopefully you've heard something similar! Found out I got waitlisted at Penn State, so if any kind souls would like to decline their offers for me, that would be great haha

  9. I was just wondering if anyone knew the subtle nuances of the waitlist...namely how many students are usually on it. I know it must vary from university to university and from program to program, but does anyone have any experience in hearing how many students are usually placed on it and maybe even the likelihood of getting a good news calls once you're placed on one? I guess I just got placed on one today and the program only admits 3 students, so I'm trying to figure out the likelihood of acceptance at this point. Thanks!

  10. Happy Birthday mks! Thanks for filling us in. I actually contacted my POI at Portland today and found out that I was no longer in the running... :( She did say that they have 4 slots this year for nearly 100 applications. I am sooo sad, but glad to have found out sooner rather than keeping up false hope.

    Thank you! And sorry to hear about Portland, I know a lot of people applied there and I didn't even really think about it but now I wish I had, although 4/100 doesn't leave much room! The notices will come flooding in for us come early March, just wait and see!

  11. Hey guys...I found out from CSU and OU via phone call (OU actually called me on my birthday on Tuesday, so that was exciting!). The OU orientation is next weekend, so I don't know what that means for those who applied and haven't heard yet. I'm sure not everyone who was accepted will go there, so if you're on a waiting list then have no fear. MSU and Illinois sent me a letter, and Minnesota sent me an email indicating that the letter was available online.

    It seems to me (and if the last post is in fact true) that a lot of programs have sent out their offers already and will be having visitation times in early/middle March. But obviously the decisions won't be made for a while after, so I'm keeping hope that I'll hear from some of my top top choices.

    I'll PM you MissRyan!

  12. Man. The Big Ten does not like me. Rejected from Michigan State, Minnesota, and Illinois. But the Big 12 likes me for some reason, got in to Oklahoma and Colorado State. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue though, I'd really like to get in to PSU! Anyone else heard anything??

  13. Thanks for all of that information! It's good to hear anything at all. From what I've seen the program looks really good there and of course I've heard great things about the school in general. If I get in, don't be surprised if you get a PM.

    I'd love to hear that good news, and I'll be in Gville to show you around too haha! Best of luck

  14. Ouch, the one department I really don't have much contact with. I don't know anything about Wynne nor do I know any grad students in behavior analysis, but if you are at all interested in Dr. Dallery I can vouch for him. I actually played golf with him once and he was a really cool, down to earth guy.

    About the University of Florida...I would highly recommend it. Great city, great atmosphere, the psych department has great faculty members (although the building isn't much to look at!) I'm friends with a number of grad students and I don't hear many bad things at all. Very diverse group of grad students. I know a lot more about the counseling, clinical, and social psych programs if there's anyone else out there. As far as behavior analysis...that's all I've got. Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything else about UF or Gainesville, or other members of the psych department though, and as always, good luck!

  15. I know I'm just chiming in here, but I can probably direct you to someone at OU or tell you what I know. I'm not attending that program, but I've been working on a handbook chapter with my professor and the editor is Dr. Mumford (she went to OU for her PhD in I/O and he was her advisor). I've learned a lot about the program from my professor (who I think is awesome, and she clearly got great research training there. She just won a prestigious award for a publication on leadership that resulted from her dissertation, and she's very early in her career). They have a really strong program and I've heard good things. I can also share some other tidbits, let me know and I can PM you.

    Hey Alexis. Sure, feel free to PM me with whatever you have; my primary interest is actually leadership so your professor's experiences are probably pretty relevant to what I want to do. Thanks for chiming in!

  16. Has anyone heard anything from Florida yet? I'm really anxiously awaiting news from them, and I hope acceptances haven't already been given out. I haven't seen much on the results search, so hopefully they haven't decided yet.

    Hey, I'm not applying to UF but I do go there for undergrad and I know a lot of professors...which program are you applying for and which professors are you most interested in?

  17. Hey everyone,

    This is my first post. Has anyone been accepted to the University of Tulsa? If so, are you attending the visitation day?

    Additionally, I have applied to the following schools:

    * Purdue

    * BGSU

    * SLU

    * UMSL

    * Texas A&M

    * UNO

    * University of Tulsa

    * OU

    * MSU

    * Radford University

    I have heard from TU, UNO, and Texas A&M. Has anyone heard from the other schools yet?

    Hey atjacks, welcome to the board. I applied to Purdue, BGSU, OU, and MSU as well and I heard back from MSU by mail...didn't get in. Haven't heard back from any of those other schools though. You're from Oklahoma eh? Do you attend OU now? If so, can you tell me anything about their I/O program? I applied there as well.

  18. Congrats! I'm not speaking from personal experience - just from obsessively reading about experiences on here and elsewhere. It is my understanding that they technically have to let you wait until April 15th, but certainly want to pressure you to make a choice as soon as possible so they can continue down their list if need be. Especially because you don't think you're super interested, I'd wait a week at least. If you're still not sure, e-mail and ask them for an extension to be sure you're making the right decision, etc. I think people have done this successfully in the past.

    Has anyone heard from TC Columbia, Depaul, or GW? Good luck to everyone this week!

    Good advice, I'll certainly do something along those lines. The next 2 weeks should clarify some things for sure so I have a good while before I need to let them know. Never heard the April 15th thing, so that's good to know as well.

    I applied to GW and I haven't heard anything yet.

  19. Thanks for the info. I would take a week and half just waiting to hear from other schools (this should be an active week), then take it from there. Sticky situation, but at least you have a little time. Worse case scenario you could bite the bullet and contact the POI's at your first choice schools (assuming you have been in contact with them throughout the application process) and try to find out some info about your status.

    I will send good vibes your way!

    Hey MissRyan, just checked my FIU page and they did change the status, there is a green check mark that indicates "Admitted" now. I assume you received a pantherID or whatever they call it after you filled out the application as well? Good luck with everything!

  20. I thought (by APA standards) they have to give you until April 15th to make a decision..? 14 days seems rather unfair, especially being so early in the game. I am not sure what the best practice is in this situation...lets hope you hear from your top choice schools within the next two weeks (but if you get waitlisted that would be a much longer wait). Sorry I can't be of more help..

    CONGRATS on the acceptance! Because I also applied to FIU, when did you get the letter? And did your status change on your online application? thx.

    P.S. You applied to PhD programs, right? Your Member info does not indicate that.

    Thanks for the congratulations, much appreciated! I just got the letter yesterday, and it was a standard thin letter in a regular envelope. Same size as the rejection letter from MSU so I thought I was rejected at FIU as well! I haven't checked my online status, but as soon as I do so I will let you know. FIU is not one of my top schools, and I definitely want to get out of Florida so chances are that spot will open right back up. And yes, they were all PhD programs except George Mason that I applied to.

    The letter says that I am not guaranteed an assistantship and tuition waiver, but it is possible that I will. I guess they have a waiting list for the financial assistance, that's what they say in the letter. Then it says "This decision will be made later in the year and after you confirm to us your decision to enter the program. Please do so in writing as soon as possible by emailing the graduate secretary within 14 days of receipt of this letter"

    ...Sooo I don't know, I guess if I definitely want to go there I need to say yes within 14 days? Strangely worded, and obviously I'm not used to this stuff!

  21. Anyone hear from Michigan State yet? I got a rejection letter today, but I was accepted to FIU. 1/2 so far, not terrible but I would have loved to at least get waitlisted at the #1 IO program! They should come piling in over the next two weeks now, I'm excited.

    The acceptance letter to FIU says that I must respond to the acceptance letter within 14 days of receipt, but obviously I have no idea if I want to go there due to the fact that the majority of places I applied to have not given me word yet. Anyone else run into this? What are you guys doing if you are accepted but want to see what answer you get from other programs??

  22. Looks like a lot of us really want in to PSU...I haven't heard anything yet but I heard from a grad student there that they will be sending out notifications in the next 2 weeks. Good luck to everyone again, thanks for the info.

  23. Hey everybody, just found this site and think it's an incredible resource for all of us to chat as we find out what the next 5-7 years of our lives will hold! When does everyone expect to hear back from their respective programs?

    I've applied to 15 programs in total including: Penn State, Michigan State, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Akron, Bowling Green, Maryland, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Colorado State, South Florida, Florida International, and George Mason (MA program). If anyone has any details on those programs, feel free to post them or pm me anytime!

    Quick question too: I never really emailed the programs to check if they've received all my app materials because I've been so busy and figured it wasn't too important. Do you all think I should email them just to check, or is it a bit late at this stage in the game?
