  1. What do you mean, they call you if it's an acceptance? I just checked it out now because I'm very anxious about my Monmouth application as well, but I believe they say to call the admissions office if you have any questions about it, not to actually find out if you were accepted or not.

Monmouth called all the those who were accepted. I tried to post this before but I don't think it went through. Unfortunately I didn't get a call either :(

  2. I am in the same boat as well. Hoping to hear from some schools tomorrow. My professor from UNC , who is also the head of the grad school department told me to look into any graduate course you can take without actually being enrolled in the grad school. UNC has two classes that are grad classes you can take as an undergraduate. Other universities probably have some as well. She said this would help determine how you would stand with grad level of work. If you have an option to get and be an SLPA, that's another way to get experience.

Unfortunately being an SLPA doesn't seem to help. I Have been an SLPA for five years and have gained a lot of great experience. My undergrad GPA was a 3.3 and I also have a masters degree in Special Education in which I obtained a GPA of 3.75. You would think that already having a master's degree and valuable experience would help me get into grad school for speech but so far I've been rejected from all but one and I'm expecting another rejection this week:( I am also bilingual. Unfortunately this field is so competitive and it's ridiculous and very discouraging.

  3. That's so uncool. I have two other schools that just haven't said anything, and one of them stopped inviting people to interview weeks ago! These schools need to up their game. It's nearly april, If they know they aren't going to accept someone they should send notification at a reasonable time, instead of stringing us along. This is like a guy asking a girl out, and then the girl (knowing full well that she doesn't want to date him) going "ummmm wellllllll I don't know. I'll tell you by the end of the month at the latest." AND THEN NOT TELLING HIM.

I completely agree! It's such crap. I wish they would tell me already so I can move on with my life haha!

  4. I got a rejection email on 3/19 (but I only applied to the summers only) last year they never got back to me.....What program did you apply to?

I also applied to the summers only track. I'm currently an SLPA and I live out of state. I'm not exactly the ideal candidate in terms of GPA and GRE scores but I'm still hoping to be considered. I haven't heard anything back from them yet besides the initial emails saying that my application has been submitted. I'm hoping to hear something this week, I'm going crazy!

  5. Thanks! I was hoping that my background would help get me into the program. I am a highly qualified special education teacher who works with sever kids at their house, SLPA and department chair of the High School special education department. I applied to several schools but have only heard back from NAU. Its hard for me to go anywhere because my family lives here in Arizona, my husband is a fireman and I have two kids. I wish we could pack up and leave just for me to go to school but my options are extremely limited. :( I guess my best option is going to be talk to NAU and possibly take some grad classes and re-take my GRE. Congrats to everyone who got accepted I hope to meet you guys next year!

If you don't mind me asking, when did you hear from NAU? I Still haven't heard a thing!

  6. Lol I think the list would be shorter if I told you where I DIDN'T apply. I applied to as many schools as I could afford this time around because I only have a 3.5 GPA and a low GRE. I feel like everyone who's been accepted has higher than a 3.5 and stellar GRE's <_<

NY Medical, LIU Post, Saint Rose, William Paterson, LaSalle, Old Dominion, Longwood, Radford, USF, U Houston, Duquesne, Edinboro, Temple, SCSU, U TX El Paso, Misericordia, U AK Fayetteville = 17 Headaches

Koukla19 I was wondering when you heard back from St. Rose? Im in your boat. I applied to a bunch with a not so high GPA and terrible GRE scores. I'm assuming I will be rejected from St. Rose as well but I still haven't heard anything from them.

  7. @mia6741

I got accepted to NAU today! It feels great to know that I'll be able to go to grad school for sure. Looking forward to hearing back from all my other schools so that I can start making plans!

Congrats! Did you apply for the full time program or part time at NAU? I applied there as well but to the part time summer program.

  8. I am currently working as an SLPA and absolutely love it! I couldn't get into grad school right off the bat so I actually got a masters in SPED and reapplied to grad school for speech for fall 2015. I'm not sure if it will help me or not already having a masters degree but I sure hope so. Either way I love being an SLPA. I work with children and have had the opportunity to work with a variety of different cases and disorders without having to test and write reports. The experience I have gained has been amazing. If I don't get into school this time around I wont be devastated because I love my job. If you can't get into school, give an SLPA position a try. I think that you will love it too. Good Luck!

  9. I didn't apply there but I applied to another school with the same instructions. After the deadline for CSDCAS, the school emailed me with instructions to complete the supplemental application. I believe you should have received one already. Most of the deadlines have passed. I would call or email the school right away and ask. I hope it's not too late for you! Good luck!

  10. Hi Everyone,

I too would like to share my experience. I am currently working as a Speech and Language Assistant in an inner city school district. I have been for the last five years. My dream has always been to be a SLP but like some of you have shared, I too was rejected upon initially applying grad school. I decided to go back to school for Special Ed because I wanted to obtain a master's degree one way or the other. In my district, having a master's degree also gives you a pay raise. So I received my master's in SPED in December 2013 and graduated with a 3.74 gpa. I do not want to be a teacher. I am in love with the speech and language field and I only obtained this degree to further my education (considering most of my students I currently work with are SPED students) and receive the pay raise. I have applied to go back to grad school for speech in the hope that already having a master's degree and proving I can complete master's level work with a decent gpa will help me get accepted. I don't know if this will help me or not but I am sure hoping it will! Either way I LOVE my job and I love the speech field. I can't imagine myself doing anything else. I say if your dream is speech than stick with it - maybe see if you can find a job working as an SLPA like me. I haven't gotten accepted to any schools yet and I'm not sure if I will either. Maybe obtaining a master's and reapplying will help! Who knows?! I'll keep you all posted!
