  1. Yeah, that's a great idea. Call up and be rude to someone who is already drowning in voicemail, snail mail, email, etc. with people who (all perfectly innocently, but it piles up) all want to know the same thing. Patience, folks. I know it's frustrating, but getting angry about it isn't going to help anything.
  2. Dude. You ran the table on all your applications which include a bunch of ludicriously-hard-to-get-into schools. Nice.
  3. Yeah, it's concerning, certainly, but according to their program literature, everyone is funded in years 2-4. While not being funded 1st year would be rather unfortunate, it's not the end of the world--as schools go, it's a bargain, too. All that said I'd love to have funding same as you. Good luck to both of us!
  4. You got a funding offer at UVA? I thought they hadn't announced anything yet; letter said they'd do it in April. Sucks for me, but good for you
  5. According to the admissions letter I got, UVA makes funding decisions in April. Last year's admissions thread isn't terribly helpful in determining what UVA funding has historically looked like (though I know they're thought of as being less generous than others). Can anybody who's been through this process clue me in? According to the results page, we're -all- awaiting funding decisions there. On the plus side, now I have something else to be nervous about
  6. I still haven't heard anything from them. I'll try and call around 3:30 EST today because I really don't want to have to wait another 3 days...
  7. Congrats to both you UVAs! I'm still waiting to hear back. Not accepted, but at least not rejected yet, either.
  8. That would make the database much smaller and therefore less useful. Sure, there's occasional pranksters, but people shouldn't be obligated to make a forum account to give us useful data. Honestly, if we weren't in the throes of admissions season RIGHT NOW, I suspect everyone would agree that an anonymous db is the best way to go.
  9. How frustrating. I simply cannot get a live human on the phone over in graduate admissions at UVA. 'grats to the UT-Austin folks; that one'll be on my list next year should UVA fall through.
  10. Literally the exact same thing happened to me. I can't imagine working in an admissions office. The Dec-Feb period must just be an absolute nightmare. Going to try and call today. Fingers crossed for both of us
  11. Thanks. I gather UVA is different than most other schools who use this application software, since they've got this note on the page: *Please be aware that your application status will remain "incomplete" even if all required materials have been submitted and received by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. So I'm not worried about the "Incomplete".
  12. UVA folks (including Brouhaha): There's a handful of rejections posted via website. How does that look? If I log in, it still says Submission Status: Submitted/Application Status: Incomplete. Is there somewhere else I need to look?
  13. Y'know, someone not claiming a particular admit doesn't make the admit any less true, much as we all wish it would from time-to-time. I'm certain there's not a 1:1 overlap between admits/rejections and forum posters here. Nor should there have to be. I think a lot of us are starting to fall into the trap of "if nobody posted, it didn't happen!" which is silly. Understandable, but silly.
  14. Hey, someone got into UVA American Politics. Not me, though. Congrats to someone
  15. UVA updated my application yesterday to say that one of my transcripts (which I knew was there; the office told me so when I called last month) was there. So... I think perhaps they're not anywhere close to making decisions this year despite the previous few years. Or maybe I should not extrapolate anything from my application being updated because it probably just means that my application was updated
  16. Anybody know what's up w UVA? In previous years they've announced decisions right around today's date. Was a little surprised we didn't hear anything yesterday. I don't think C'Ville got as clobbered with snow as the DC area, and I believe the campus was open yesterday.
  17. UVA too (not that I'm paying attention or anything... )
  18. I -only- applied to UVA. My fiancee is finishing a Master's in DC and won't be done until fall 2011, so I'm not willing to go any further geographically than UVA. That said, UVA'd be my first choice even if I'd added in other schools, so I'm perfectly happy with it being my only bullet this year. If I don't get in, I'll apply to a reasonable number of programs for 2011, but I'm realllly hoping this works out. For those of you not on the east coast, we've gotten absolutely clobbered w snow. I wouldn't be surprised if UVA couldn't send out acceptances/rejections on Monday simply because there may not be anyone able to physically get to the admissions office to start the process. I think it's cool that there's 3 of us who're interested in the same subject; I don't see any reason why we can't all get in and do some amazing work
  19. American Politics. Impact of new media on voter behavior, and how to accurately predict voter behavior using new media.
  20. This presupposes I'm admitted, which I'm not anything close to convinced of. I'm sure my candidacy is worthy, but at some point there's more worthy candidates than openings and I may or may not win the coin flip(s) necessary. Thanks for the insight though!
  21. Winter's research best fits what I want to study--I'm more interested in the quant side, studying polling (especially polling using new media). So does Sabato, I guess, but that's the name that EVERYONE goes to when you mention UVA and politics.
  22. Huh. Didn't even notice there's already 1 (unofficial, via email)UVA admit on the results page from last week. Going to be an antsy weekend.
  23. UVA was 2nd Monday of Feb. last year (2/9) judging by the plethora of responses. While I'd also love to find out today, I think we'll be waiting another weekend. On the plus side, it's supposed to snow 18 inches or something ridiculous this weekend, so I'll have plenty of exhausting work shoveling snow to keep my mind off of things
