  1. Hey charliemarlie,

I JUST did the same! I went to visit the school last summer and the campus is beautiful. I don't know much about the program itself but I haven't heard any negative comments about it either. Looks like we will be classmates in the fall!

Hey guys!  I also go to Guelph and just graduated, and now I am working here for the summer.. I have had an absolutely amazing experience here through my undergrad and would recommend it to anyone :) I was thinking about accepting the MPH offer for Guelph too.. but I figure it is time to go explore somewhere else.  Please PM me if you have any questions!

  2. To those accepted into USASK - how long did it take after your status changed online until you got an acceptance email? My status changed to "Dept Recommend" on Friday and still no email, getting nervous here!

It took several business days, so don't worry.  You'll also get an official offer in the mail

  3. To those who have been accepted at Queens, do you have experience in public health? Im getting worried that I haven't heard back yet...

I didn't!  Don't worry - The last day for people who got offers to accept the offer is March 31.  So shortly after that they will probably send some more offers out

  4. Hello all,

I was wondering on what basis you are ranking your schools in terms of preference.

I have been accepted to SFU (PH) and Queens and am having trouble picking between the two. I also have applied to UW, U of T and Guelph but haven't heard anything. But even still how would you go about choosing, all seem like great school for different reasons and the programs don't vary too drastically?

Any insight would be much much appreciated.

Congratulations to all that have been accepted!!!

    Hey MPH1103,

Most of the programs you applied to will be very similar.  I put McGill and U of T (epi) as my top choices because I really want to do epidemiology, and both these programs are really focused on it.  Depending on what stream you applied to at U of T, it would probably be very different from a more general program like Queen's.  But then there are other things to consider like whether or not they give any scholarship (I haven't heard of anyone getting a scholarship so far though! So disappointing), how much the tuition is, if you'll have to move far from home, how established the program is/how long has it been around?  Things like that.  Honestly though, I think all the universities give a very high quality of education so don't stress too much about it :)  Most schools post the required courses so I looked at those to get an idea of what the program will be like.

  5. Congratulations, when did you submit your complete application for review and what is your profile; in terms of Academic and work experience? My status still on "complete ready for review", i applied since Mid February.

I submit it early January and had all my documents sent in by late January.  My average is 87, I have one paper with my name on it in the Journal of Applied Micro, and I have two summers of research experience.  I just declined the offer, so that's one more spot available!  They said that they do it on a rolling basis and that they review them as they come in, so you probably just need to wait it out!

  6. My status just changed at USask to "Dept Recommend - Conditional".  I already accepted the McGill offer, but I just wanted to let you guys knows so that you can check your USask accounts!   Congratulations to everyone who has received interviews/offers so far.  And for the others, don''t worry, it is still quite early!

  7. Thanks for your reply (above lol), I had called early in fall 2014 and the academic adviser told me that they usually have a class size of 16-32 students, and if i remember correctly last year they only took on 22...assuming no one else was good enough for them (just joking lol)

    Thanks!!

  8. Hi everyone! So glad this topic was started :)

I guess I should start out with some basic info, I applied to Mcgill (MsCPH), UofT (epi-global health emphasis), uOttawa (epidemiology), guelph (MPH-epi), McMaster (Global health).

For those of you who have heard back from McGill do you mind sharing your stats? My applications still says in Review but I am definitely nail biting now that I know you guys are in lol ! I am currently doing a Bsc at Uottawa in Biopharm, my overall GPA wasn't that great because I struggled a bit in 1st and 2nd year, but hey who knows ! I had a wicked awesome personal statement and two good references (from head of dpt of health sciences and head of microbiology dpt), so maybe that will make up for my weak grades.

Also do you guys mind disclosing when you applied? I submitted all of my docs by dec 12th so I'm assuming that automatically I am at the bottom of the pile lol

I am in food science at U of Guelph right now, just finishing my last year.  I have an 87 average overall and a couple summers of research jobs (microbiology and cell culture based - so kind of public health related, but not really!). McGill says we should accept the offer (once we get the official one) by March 23, so I'm sure that soon after that they will send out some more offers!  I think that it is really early to hear back from any school, so try to be patient and wait it out :)

  9. Hey all!

I applied to McGill, Toronto (Epi stream), Guelph, Saskatchewan, and Queens.  Now that I have thought about it a little more, I will probably only go if I get in to McGill or Toronto (more epi and stats based programs).  I have a bit of an odd background (undergrad degree in food science), but I have done two summer research jobs that are food safety/microbiology based.  My average is 87.  I know that if I get in, I'll be lucky!  If not, I'll be doing a fifth year of stats and bio courses and reapplying next year.  I want to go to McGill so bad!
