  1. I think I'm heading to Princeton for PL. Anyone from here going to Princeton (and did I meet you on visit day? I'm the guy with crazy hair who sang Gimme Shelter on visit day)
  2. didn't get it
  3. You would really take an unfunded Masters at CMU over a fully funded Cornell PhD admit?
  4. In my opinion, once you get outside the top 20 or so the rankings don't really matter too much. Pick somewhere solely on fit, nobody is going to care (or know) that you chose a school ranked #50 over a school ranked #70. If you really really want rankings, check out USNews.
  5. If it's been a week, I would contact them. I doubt it helps to contact professors at this stage, decisions have (for the most part) been made
  6. Apparently not many people pass the Stanford EE exams. Plus, CS > EE, and Berkeley, CA is cheaper than Palo Alto, so go to Berkeley.
  7. Why don't you just wait until THEY tell you if you get in or not? It shouldn't be too long from now...
  8. Everyone got the Brown batch e-mail. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you haven't heard from them otherwise, you were (very very most likely?) not accepted.
  9. CMU is done sending acceptances for Ph.D in CS, I think. MIT I think is mostly done. U.Mass and UMD have also sent out several acceptances.
  10. "don't get suckered"
  11. You know, Berkeley wasn't such a great fit, and California is going to all hell, but they could at least put in their deny letter template "Dear ${name}," instead of "Dear Applicant."
  12. You and everyone else, man. Their M.Eng is a big scam, and irrelevant for research minded individuals. I quote from their page: "The M.Eng. program in Computer Science is a one-year (two semester) professional development program designed to enhance professional skills in practical computer science. The program is particularly suited to students seeking advanced credentials for employment in industry." I can't imagine you'd be doing much research there, which would hurt your chances to a PhD program afterward..
  13. Oh well. I couldn't see myself in Texas anyway... too hot... That's a damn shame about CMU though.
  14. It would hurt her reputation as well if she did so... but if she is acting irrationally, she might not care. I'm not sure. I'm sorry you're in that situation. Is there a trusted member of your dept you could talk to about this?
  15. Hey, don't worry. Cornell is a brilliant school! Does anyone know if Illinois is done sending acceptances? Somehow I think MIT/Berkeley/CMU are done sending... :-( Also, has anyone heard from UT Austin?
  16. I disagree. I don't think it matters. For the record, I got a lower math score than the poster did and got accepted to Princeton. Caveats: I'm American, and my research/recs were awesome. I would however work on that verbal score...
  17. I got a batch e-mail. I don't know if other people got a personal e-mail; I think two of the professors I am interested in working with are on sabbatical so others might have gotten a personalized one.
  18. Got into Princeton! I'm surprised that Princeton accepts me and Cornell doesn't even put me on their waitlist? I thought I had a better fit at Cornell, and they take more people... Anyway, if CMU/MIT are reading this... don't let this discourage you from accepting me...
  19. I feel a reject coming for me...
  20. I haven't heard from most of my programs Don't despair though--I got a mass e-mail from Yale after silence and I thought for sure I was rejected, but was pleasantly surprised... maybe the same will happen to you! (and me...)
  21. I surely understand... on top of that, I've got MIT to worry about now as well. Come on guys, more e-mails!
  22. I applied to the broad CS PhD program, area: programming languages. I hope they come through, they are my top choice I don't have high hopes though, especially after getting rejected from Cornell.
  23. Well they showed me tough love at least
  24. Congrats! All I know is that they are unranked by USNews.
