  1. Hi! I am going to Emerson College in the Fall!!
  2. Hello everyone! I am in the same situation as all of you. On one hand I am terrified of debt and on the other I really want to go to the competitive and well-known program. Fortunately I have been accepted into multiple programs that give me options. On the low end I could graduate with around 30k in loans (tuition and living) at a school that has a good program but that I have no desire to go to. In the middle I have a school that is competitive, in an amazing city, has a great program, but isn't my top choice for 60k. At the top I have my dream school that has all of the bells and whistles and is known nationwide for being a great school... but it would be at least 100k in loans. I will be visiting the 3 schools this weekend to get a better feel for them and then make my decision but I think I am going to choose the middle option. Even though 60k is still a lot of debt, I feel like I would regret completely settling and going to a school I have no interest in. That being said, I am only 22 and I will be able to live on a strict budget for a while before I start a family. For those of you who are concerned about mortgages, it is definitely something to consider! My father had a lot of student loans after law school and my parents had a hard time buying a house. Of course, eventually they were able to and my dad paid off his debt, but we had to live tight for a while.
  3. I had a similar question! Next week I am kind of doing a New England tour and I am visiting UMASS Amherst, Emerson, and MGH IHP for their open houses. The UMASS open house is more like an information session I think and it is only an hour in the morning so I was planning on looking nice but more casual. Emerson's is in the evening and I know there will be light refreshments and a chance to talk to faculty. MGH is hosting a 5 hour event with refreshments in the afternoon and desserts at the end of it. I am sure most of the faculty will be in attendance as well. I'm stressing about what to wear for all three haha since they all seem to be different. I don't want to be the only one dressed up but I definitely don't want to look under dressed either!
  4. Wow congrats! I also was accepted a few weeks ago but no word on funding today. I was hoping I would get something because it is a very expensive program. I did get funding from Emerson though so I am still happy about that! Also I understand your wanting to go to MGH! That is my dream school but unfortunately it is out of my budget unless I got a scholarship. It is an amazing program! I am sure you will have a ton of success no matter which school you choose though!
  5. Hi everyone! I was wondering if anybody who was accepted to UNH has heard if they are receiving funding yet? Thanks
  6. I'm between MGH and Emerson. I always said that if I got in I would go to MGH but now looking at the cost I am having major second thoughts. Emerson gave me a fellowship and it is such a great program - really enjoyed the supportive environment. Either way we will all get a great education at any of the Boston schools I think!
  7. Hello!! I got into Emerson and I am about 90% sure that I will be going there! I also thought that the program had a wonderful and supporting environment which is something you don't see very much in this field. The faculty are very accomplished and there is also some interesting research that is conducted at Emerson. The reason I am not 100% is because I also got into MGH and that has been my dream school for years. Sadly, it is ridiculously expensive and I don't want to walk out of grad school with 100k in student loans. Emerson gave me a scholarship so I don't think I could turn it down, plus I think it's a great program!
