  1. I know how it feels, I applied a couple of years ago and didn't receive it, but I applied again this year with better essay, recommendation letters and volunteer work. never give up and try to even find other scholarships/loans !
  2. what program are you going to in Jordan? Was initially going to egypt but that was cancelled so have to look for an alternate program, perhaps Jordan
  3. I got the scholarship! :-) now to look for an alternate program! congrats to everyone as well! i am still shaking and hoping I'm not dreaming still !!
  4. eww. had a dream about it, hope they know how much they mess us up during this process lol
  5. i actually, everyone here hates you. TOTALLY KIDDING, I think we are all on edge about this, to be honest, i am not as excited anymore, or obsessed, if you will. After I have to change my program and country and the news that budget emails do not really have any direct significance anymore kind of discouraged me. Oh well, all I can do is wait for a couple of weeks and find out where I will end up at the end of this year : ) no matter what, I will take the route that I have always wanted. Is anyone taking classes this semester, how is that going?
  6. I just want the results so I can plan my end of the year LOL I usually plan ahead but I have to wait a couple of more weeks to see where I will go.
  7. welcome , some of us received that letter. we are all waiting for a response and its torturous, I'm pretty much over it hehe we have a spreadsheet in which we record any notifications just for records....yeah we are a bit obsessed lol
  8. cruel indeed. forgot about that stupid holiday, yeah I got the email just about 30 minutes ago, going to have to do some heavy research on my new program, I'm thinking jordan. still have a lot of things to do though
  9. just received an email from Boren requesting a new program , since no awards will be funded to Egypt. basically states IF I have an alternate program, to propose it to them, if not I have until late May IF I am chosen as a recipent.
  10. did u email to ask them? why so early and what notification ? lol sorry for the attack of questions
  11. saw these two documents, I think the second one is about the flagship. my head hurts, I should stop this madness https://www.borenawards.org/document/download/language_proficiency_testing_form_144.pdf http://www.borenawards.org/document/download/language_proficiency_testing_form_flaghip_158.pdf
  12. however, the OPI is for Language Flagship applicants only, not everyone that applied for the scholarship are required to take those. might be a good indicator for the flagship applicants though!
  13. just throwing it out there, I applied two years ago, my app was not really strong and I did not have a Boren Representative that helped me out, I did NOT receive any "budget email" and I did NOT receive the award. do not know if that helps but that is why I was so curious about that budget email that was sent out to some of us
  14. yeah it seems like it, almost everyone got the budget email on this forum, don't know what the correlation is anymore. seemed in previous years it was a strong indicator but at this point I have no idea what to expect since my country was restricted to the scholarship
  15. I agree, I think the staff has a lot on their hands and have not even thought about looking into these threads. I feel a bit left out as I applied for the scholarship well I received the budget email, received the notification that there won't be awards for my country, but I am just playing the waiting game. I am going to have plan A, B, and C at this point. I was obsessing over it a couple of weeks ago but I realized I should take it easy haha i am still wondering why the thread isn't as busy as previous years...its not so hard to find and i know many people applied...hmmm..
  16. did you receive the email ? I am still thinking about it, but I am holding off until I hear back the results from Boren. If I do not receive the scholarship, I will end up going to Egypt. Been there a couple times recently and still confused as to why they won't send any students. where are you thinking to go?
  17. I am not going to lie, I check this every day ! More during the past two weeks but I am slowly trying to avoid obsessing over it, now it will be easier since my country has been flagged :\ but I totally agree, there is not way it is just us in here: lurkers, lurkers everywhere lol
  18. yeah, exactly, its not going to be easy. plus, I'm not sure if I'm going to get the scholarship. if i don't get it, ill probably end up going to egypt anyways on loans but we will see what the universe has in store , thank you good luck to u too!
  19. yes "This notice is being sent to all 2015-2016 Boren Scholarship applicants to the country of Egypt. Due to security issues we will not be funding Boren Scholarships in Egypt for the 2015-2016 Boren Award cycle." yes, they told me to look into other programs in other countries :C and if I were to be a recipient, I have until late May to provide them with an alternate program and that they are willing to working with candidates in this situation. It is strange, however, a couple of days ago Egypt announced they will require visa PRIOR to entering the country, where before I can buy one at the airport for $15 upon arrival. This was going to start in May, not sure if there is a special security issue we don't know about, but I do know there has been scattered bombings throughout the country, even in Cairo. Civilians weren't targeted, just official foreign buildings or what not. They told me to look into the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, Morocco or Qatar, but that changes the whole game. I am pretty sure they would have sent you the email already if it was cancelled because the dates are approaching. If not now, soon? Hopefully everything goes as planned for you.
  20. well, just found out they aren't sending students out to Egypt due to "security issues" which is weird because they were sending students out during the revolutions. they say this doesn't affect my application what so ever, but it is still a huge bummer.
  21. i thought i heard a few clicks of a mouse, she might have been doing that!!! LOL jk.....she was very dismissive about the question, as they are trained to do so. I turned in my budget update and continuing to bite my nails. I actually am trying to convince myself that those were sent out to everyone and I should just distract myself until i get the email late April -____-
  22. lol yeah, wouldn't that just be amazing well I called them just now about some questions I had on the above letter. also asked if everyone have gotten them and of course they are trained to beat around the bush with their answers. She said well these emails were sent just to clarify budgets. I didn't try any further I know how it is. so the waiting game continues...........
  23. I noticed that too, I think towards the end of the month more curious applicants will show up. unfortunately, i can't stop obsessing over this, i was doing fine but when I got the email I just can't stop thinking about it. wake me up when the end of April is here!
  24. Hello everyone!! Can anyone help me out as to what this email means? I have read past forums and understood that not everyone gets these, some people got an email saying that it was sent out to ALL applicants and are requesting DATES. Appreciate it! Dear ___________. Thank you for submitting your National Security Education Program David L. Boren Scholarship application. Your application is being considered and final award decisions will be announced at the end of April 2015. If your study abroad program has an earlier deposit deadline, you may want to let them know that you are awaiting a decision from the Boren Scholarship. If you are awarded a Boren Scholarship, you will be required to attend the Orientation and Convocation in Washington, DC on June 8th and 9th. If you are awarded, certain materials will need to be submitted before your first award disbursement would be issued. In addition, you would need to purchase your airline tickets before receiving your first disbursement. Funding would then be distributed over the duration of the program and not in a single installment. Please plan accordingly. As your application is being considered, we request that you provide IIE with additional information about your study abroad program costs and financial aid status. The Boren Scholarship online system (https://nsep.iieweb.net/nsep/nseplogin.asp) allows you to submit the requested information electronically. Applicants should use their original user name and password to log onto the system. Please be sure to hit the “UPDATE” button in order to save the requested information online. ** PLEASE PROVIDE IIE WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION USING THE ONLINE SYSTEM BY 5:00PM EDT WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2015! ** A. Cost of attendance at home institution – Please state your total cost to attend your current U.S. institution for one academic year. Include tuition, room and board, books, etc. as appropriate. Updated Financial Aid Information – If you receive financial aid, identify the total amount of financial aid that you receive for an academic year. Include scholarships, grants, AND loans. C. Study Abroad Dates and Cost –The table lists your study abroad dates and costs as stated in your application. You must contact your study abroad program to determine if anything has changed. If so, enter the new dates or amounts in the space provided. The program costs MUST be broken down into the following categories: Cost of tuition and fees – If your home institution requires you to pay its tuition rather than the study abroad program costs, please include your home institution tuition costs in this field. Cost of room and board – This is housing and food. This should include costs incurred during program breaks if you are to remain in your host country. Cost of round-trip international airfare – Please remember that you must travel on a U.S. Airline as far as possible. Cost of books, insurance and local transportation. Please be as accurate as possible in estimating these costs, keeping in mind that Boren does not select recipients based on their budgets. If there is no change to the information listed, you will need to reenter the same dates/figures on the second column. If you budget was not previously broken down, please contact your study abroad provider to get the costs broken down into our categories. D. Study Abroad Financial Aid - identify the amount of financial aid that at this time you are certain you will receive for your proposed study abroad.
