My daughter was recently accepted to University of Oregon. We didn't see anything about an open house or "visit day". Where did you find out about this and can you tell us when the open house is? Thanks so much!

She just found out that she was denied at both Boulder and UW Seattle. She's coming from undergrad at University of Arizona but home is San Diego so the wet weather in Eugene may be difficult for her. Waiting to hear back from two more schools but they were reaches so I told her she needs to embrace Oregon. She is a very "outdoorsy" person so I think she will end up loving Eugene but moving somewhere she has never seen and knows absolutely no one is making her nervous. Did you apply for the GTF?

I did apply for the GTF - but there is only one spot, so we will see what happens. I am missing classes that the GTF person will be grading - so it's up in the air at this point, I assume. I thought about applying to Boulder originally but stopped once I looked at the cost of living in Boulder, lol. I have cousins and an aunt and uncle there, and it's beautiful, but not enough to make me completely uproot my family. I received admission to UW Med SLP today. That said, I'm not sure we could afford this program when all is said and done.
I lived and grew up in the San Francisco "Bay Area" so I have a completely different perspective when it comes to weather, especially when it comes to your daughter.
Let me know if she chooses U of O - I would be more than happy to be a "surrogate mom" lol, if need be.

Thank you! It would be so nice knowing she had someone to talk to. One of her hesitations with U of O is that she is really interested in neuro research and it doesn't look like that have anything that even resembles that. They also mentioned in the acceptance letter that clinical placements are limited and students may have to relocate for that period. That doesn't sound optimal.
I know what you mean about the cost of the Med SLP program. My daughter didn't apply to that since it is a self funded program hence it isn't part of the Western exchange whereas the core program was. The cost of Oregon (being out of state) is high too but we may just have to suck it up with loans etc. I will be so glad when all this is over!
Thank you again,
Tammy
