    I'm trying to figure out a potential course lineup for my first semester in my MA program. Does it make more sense to take a thesis development class right off the bat, or would it be wiser to wait until the second semester?

      If you're humanities, then you definitely need to wait on that. I would wait until after the first year, unless you're trying to finish in a year and a half instead of 2-3.

      I'm in a two year scientific MA. Our project proposals need to be approved by the end of the first year which was why I was thinking of taking the thesis class early

    Microsoft just made my night! I just received my new computer today and found out that I'm eligible for a free Office 365 subscription through my school-issued email. So glad I won't have to pay for MS Office on top of everything else :/

      Most universities have contracts with microsoft not only for Office but also for Windows and other software. If you're lucky you might even get stuff like Photoshop and Matlab for free.

      My school provides Matlab, mathematica, Office, iworks, Adobe suites and many other softwares. Check your school software page.

      Yeah, I've already been through my campus software page. Unfortunately, there isn't much they offer for free. The page claims that grad students aren't covered for Office and Office 365 isn't even listed. That's why I am so happy to have found that I do indeed qualify. Thanks for the advice anyway

      Have you ever seen the "Blue Sky" loans or whatever? Like 15,000 dollars interest on a 5,000 dollar loan. If only we had a government agency that could protect people from financial scavengers...
