  1. I'm currently working on an online Master's degree and was looking for advice about my chances at getting into a funded, brick and mortar Phd. The Master's I'm completing is from Duquesne, an accredited, high-research b&m school. I'm in the program evaluation track, so it's very stats and research methods intense. The same degree is offered completely on-campus, but since I live and work on the other side of the country, it will be clear that I was an online student. I will have strong professional references, a high graduate GPA, GRE scores of 161q, 163v, and 4.5w, but I will be coming from an online program without the ability to build strong relationships/references with professors. Does anybody have a similar success story or feedback? Thanks, An Aspirant Candidate
  2. Hi GradCafe, I'm submitting applications to the following online programs: 1) UIC's M.Ed. in Measurement, Eval, Stats, and Assessment; 2) Kent State's M.Ed. in Measurement and Eval; 3) Duquesne's M.S.Ed. in Educational Studies with a Program Evaluation concentration; and 4) UConn's M.A. in Survey Research. My immediate goal is to prepare myself for an administrative or research position in the social services/mental health arena. Long term I'd like to pursue a Ph.D. Does anybody have any experience with these programs, or know of their reputations? Thanks!
  3. Does anybody have any knowledge of admissions scores for Evaluation Studies/Evaluation Science/Program Evaluation PhD programs? Average GRE, undergrad/grad GPA, and number of admits/applicants? Also, does anybody know why the vast majority of Phd programs do not publish this information on their websites? Thanks!
  4. Any current or past students of UGA's Social Work Phd have feedback or intimate information about this program? Anything you particularly enjoyed or were dissatisfied with? What kind of admissions profile does it have? Average GPA/GRE scores? Thanks all!
  5. Hi all, One of the psych programs I'm applying to emphasizes children's behavioral health in rural settings. I have many poignant personal examples of how a rural family can be adversely affected by distrust of, and lack of access to, behavioral/mental health services. My question is this: is it okay to disclose familial situations that speak to my understanding of, and dedication to, the program's mission? I know disclosure of personal mental health issues is a no-no for doctoral admissions, but what about disclosure of my experiences as a member of a family affected by these dynamics between parents and a sibling of mine? Pro, con, or neutral? Thanks!
  6. Hey all, I'm jumping the gun a bit and preparing my material for Fall 2016 admissions. I'm applying to clinical and counseling psych PhD programs. My undergrad cum GPA is very low for these programs (3.08), so I'm really trying to compensate with a stellar SOP. Trite tale: family and personal problems brought down my GPA Senior year and led to me dropping out, but those issues have resolved and I've been employed in the mental health field full-time for several years with awesome professional recommendations. Plus, prior to my Senior year I had a 3.7 cum and 3.79 major GPA, so I'm confident in my ability to succeed at graduate level studies. Would anybody help me out and review my SOP and/or CV? I'm looking to be seriously critiqued in all domains, but especially for active/passive voice. Thanks so much, An Aspirant Candidate P.S. I have been admitted to a three-year master's program, so I can demonstrate my ability to succeed in grad studies that way if needed, but I'd much rather save a few years and some student loans by heading straight to a doctoral program.
