  1. Alternates don't give up hope! You can contact your department and find out what your rank is. I was 9th at UVic years ago and I got it after the first 3 week decision period, and I'm not sure what my UBC rank was but I also got it there too after 3 weeks. Two alternates became two offers, so you never know.
  2. I think I just made it, ranked 25 out of 194 applications!
  3. Omg I'm going to cry - Committee 169 CGS-D3!!! I was refreshing the page and the date didn't change, but then I clicked on the folder and it was there!!!
  4. Same! NSERC likes to torture me. I bet I get results at the bitter end lol that's what happened 5 years ago on my first rodeo
  5. Hm so maybe I'm not in 195, anyone from 169 get results?
  6. I don't know if I'm 169 or 195 - but no results yet
  7. Just a quick search and it seems you can't transfer anymore - I think before they used to allow some exceptions. https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/Guides-Guides/TriRTA-TriBFR_eng.asp#changeinstitution CGS M, Vanier CGS and Banting PDF No changes to institution are permitted for these programs.
  8. I like the way you think ?
  9. Already one beer in, next is a glass of wine
  10. Did you apply for a CGS-M to Western? There is a form you can fill out to transfer NSERC between institutions but I think it has to be exceptional circumstances, since they are not meant to be transferable. I transferred mine between departments but at the same institution...
  11. I feel like that was a lot of anticipation for an empty folder lol. Anyone else waste most of their day today?
  12. Got the two e-mails - last name D
  13. It depends what your rank is, I was an alternate at UVic and ranked 11 I think, but I still got it. I had to wait the 3 weeks for everyone to decline offers.
  14. Acadia is also terrible for TA pay. My partner received $1500 for 100 hours of TA work per term. I went to UVic and it was $25/hour for 200 hours ($5,000) per term. At UBC I think it's $15/hour for undergrad TAs, $30/hour for Master's and $32/hour for PhD students. Also I just got the e-mail, last name D

I'm applying to M.Sc. at both, actually I just found out I got the NSERC to UVic as well!! UVic is a master's of geography (landscape ecology) and UBC is a master's of zoology! Although I don't know how many jobs there are in zoology these days...

Ask the school if they would allow an NSERC department transfer, I asked UVic if I could transfer one from biology to geography and they said yes no problem. I applied to both programs though and got admitted to make sure it was doable.
  18. What are the odds of going from #29 to #1 on the NSERC CGS alternate list :P

Would you be happy with a PGS (M or D)?

Did you ask faculty of grad studies or your department? My department didn't know but graduate admissions did.

    CGS-M 2015-2016

Well I'm #29 on the list at UVic, so that's a definite NO on an CGS award. How disappointing!! My dreams are crushed, and my wallet.

Yeah, most schools allow you to change departments if you receive an NSERC. They don't expect you to keep the project you applied with, you're definitely allowed to change topics and supervisors within the same school. Congrats by the way!

    CGS-M 2015-2016

I got offered an NSERC to U Lethbridge and an alternate for UVic, UBC and U of A. Praying for an offer from UVic as my #1 choice, they made me an offer for a scholarship but not enough to cover everything. Fingers are crossed for myself and other alternates out there! I asked UVic where I was on the waiting list and they didn't say, just that they would update me as the top 18 make their decisions and spots open up. The program at UVic and the atmosphere are more my style, but there is less fieldwork and way less money available than Lethbridge.. any advice? I haven't been to either of these places :/ life decisions are hard eh? Good luck everyone!!
