  1. Whoever posted the acceptance from UW-S today, I am reluctant to believe them...
  2. Michael McCann didn't write the email, it was written by the admin staff and sent by them, he is the interim chair of the department which is why he is signed on this email...
  3. To those who are/were anxiously waiting for UW-S, their rejections were just sent out (at least mine was). I knew from a POI last week, but now their formal letters have been sent by email.
  4. Maybe not a troll, maybe just a stellar applicant who was marked as the very top applicant in their pool. Either way, the coordinator said end of next week is reasonable to expect a response... Have you been in contact with anybody there?
  5. Seems a little odd, just communicated with the grad coordinator and who said there are no official news yet...
  6. Re dress-code, you just want to look presentable. Be yourself, is the best I can tell you. I have been to such visits and have seen students come for visits to my current program. If you look professional it helps, but you don't need to wear a suit, that's over-dressing and you will look out of place (because, really, grad students don't wear suits everyday). If you're an investment banker and you're going for a visit, then sure do wear a suit, but if you're an investment banker I'd advise you to stay there and avoid academia... Overall, don't overthink it. Look nice, presentable, but don't over-dress... Also re shoes you want something comfortable. You may be going up and down the stairs, or walking around campus on a tour. If you are from a warm climate (like California) going to a cold state (like Michigan) then don't forget that you need to dress warmly (and vice versa). This sounds so basic but some people do forget how cold it gets in some states or are just to stressed to think about it...
  7. Any Indiana-Bloomington Comparativist admits? In my email communication with the graduate program coordinator, she told me the committee was going to meet later during the week (that email was the same day some people posted admittance letters which is weird). I guess it may be done by field, so any Comparativists who were admitted?
  8. If you get into UBC/SFU and have more questions about the city/institutions, feel free to send me a message.
  9. Also, SFU is highly desired because they offer multi-year fellowships for many of their doctoral students, valued at 30K CAD a year, whereas UBC's grad school fellowship is 18K (then departments can add if they want you). You can definitely use SFU as leverage with other schools, if you do get in at SFU and get the fellowship...
  10. I don't have much to offer re Econ programs/GRE scores, but I would caution you against using UBC/Toronto as "safety" schools. Toronto is #1 in the nation (Canada) and tends to place well, even in the US (not referring specifically to Econ but Toronto in general). UBC is a serious school and a PhD from UBC would get you looked at for academic jobs at US institutions. Also, they tend to be more selective because they have very few spots. SFU, it's much more lower ranked, but I know of at least a few PhD grads from SFU that have gotten amazing jobs in academia, one even at UBC (Okanagan).
  11. Any comparative Indiana Bloomington admits?
  12. Anybody claiming the U. Washington Seattle admit just posted? It says notified today, did you actually receive the email today? Who did it come from? Congrats!
  13. Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful. Yes it is two POIs who will be interviewing me actually.
  14. Does anybody have any experience with the admissions process for the MRes/Phd program at the LSE? I have an interview this week, is this part of the process for everybody applying to their program or just some applicants?
  15. Anybody who applied to UBC/McGill/Toronto, what has your experience been thus far? POI contact? Heard anything?
  16. I very much hope you're right. I would just indicate: my POI who was involved in admissions assured me mid-last week that they would be deciding (didn't say notifying) admits and waitlists by Friday. Didn't say rejections. My understanding is that there were fierce debates on some files which delayed the final decisions till Friday. It could be the case that they notified those admits that were not the subject of disagreements (the "perfect" ones) and those that shortlisted but that are on the fence will need to be deliberated upon further early next week. We will learn more soon, hopefully.
  17. I wouldn't question the accuracy of the post, an internal source said they were going to decide by Friday. It seems there's another UW-S admit above. Anybody else admitted to UW-S? The only thing I wonder about is if they have notified all their admits, or still deliberating. UW-S admits, what are your fields (and regions if CP)?
  18. So is there anybody who heard from U of Washington Seattle yesterday or just the one person who posted about it?
  19. Thanks, that is helpful. Congrats! To those wondering about UW-S, my interpretation of this is that all their admit decisions were sent by the grad program assistant today (I was informed they would all be sent by Friday by an internal source). If you didn't hear from them, like myself, you're prob waitlisted, or rejected, just to be realistic...
  20. At least if Poli Sci doesn't work out, you can be a Marine Biologist (and prob make much more money while having fun in the ocean)!
  21. I don't have a response for you, unfortunately, but I am impressed by your choice of name: Art Vandalay.
  22. Would you mind telling us when you heard from UW-S and if it came from a POI/Grad Chair/program coordinator?
  23. Thanks for the info! I heard similar things from an insider about decision timelines at UW-S, so it's good to know we're being told consistent things...
  24. Have you heard anything from UW-Seattle, or have you been in touch with anybody there? Were you invited to an interview? I am wondering if they will be contacting admits soon. On negotiating, you should negotiate, and make sure they know about other offers you have (if they are better, comparatively). Pay attention to health insurance as well, not only your actual income. I would even go into the health insurance in detail and look at your co-pays and premiums. Your income is something you can negotiate, but not your insurance, so if that's extremely important for you, it will be a deciding factor...
  25. Don't think too much about Wisconsin. From internal knowledge, I can tell you they always complete the admissions process before their semester starts (this year it started Jan 23, usually around this time).
