If money were no object, I would be looking at programs in Canada, England, and Ireland!

Just coming here to say I agree - a name is part of what makes an education - but not all - and having an offer that does not deplete your savings or cause you to go into massive debt for an education is something to strongly consider. Even moreso when it is from a highly respected institution that is known for academic rigor and excellence. It is almost as if they are making the decision for you by heavily recruiting you - it is clear from their offer that they WANT you at their school.

Congratulations! Did not get an HDS interview, but okay with that. I applied right after a significant illness and the other applications were sent when I was doing better and are much higher quality. Got a decent offer from one school and have three outstanding. I could sit out a year and try again, but I do not think HDS is worth that.

Have you considered Candler? Emory is a top 25 university with incredible opportunities. Similar to Harvard, you are able to access other classes on their campus, their reputation is stellar, and they have decent aid packages. They are still accepting applications, and decisions are made pretty fast once your application is complete - their admissions office is also amazing at answering questions.

Me, no - but all applications sent out after my HDS one were SO MUCH stronger. I was very ill and in the hospital before the HDS deadline, so I am okay with how things turned out. I know the significant improvement with the later applications that represent my abilities much better. I could wait it out and apply to HDS again next year, but I already have a good offer and hope a few more might come, and I do not want to risk losing these great opportunities at places that may even provide a better education.

I agree, I think the Harvard window has closed to anyone who has yet to receive an interview invite. I was not well when I wrote my application for them, so I knew it wasn't my best work. I recently received a solid offer from Candler and am waiting on 3 additional schools that will likely release decisions between now and the end of the month. My top choice school has a later priority date, so I am worried that the acceptances and timelines to commit will not line up, but time will tell. What other schools did you apply to? Many fantastic schools are still accepting applications, so I would encourage you not to give up and consider all the options still available to you. Candler is a top-tier school (part of Emory) and offers in-person and hybrid programs, and gives access to classes at Emory that are amazing. I have come to understand that while Harvard has a great reputation and name, there are many other schools out there that can offer phenomenal experiences (maybe even better ones) that will ultimately still shape our careers in wonderful ways.

First of all, congratulations on your acceptance and offer, that is fantastic!!! They have put you in a tough situation for sure - they may even do this on purpose to try to get commitments before other schools are competing with their offer. I always think honesty is the best way to handle a situation. I would consider asking for a 2 week extension so that you are able to make your decision understanding all of your potential options.

@alyosha1607 Are you MTS or MDiv? I noticed the webinar yesterday was heavily MTS focused. I submitted before the deadline and got an application complete email immediately - I got a separate application complete and under review email several weeks later. I am looking at potential online programs, which are absolutely less than ideal compared to Harvard - there are limited options that work when you are not of Christian faith. Harvard truly is the best option.

I am starting to look at alternative plans. No one offers the program HDS does, but I also want to be realistic... particularly with the increased number of applicants. Trying to maintain balance between optimism and realism. When did you submit your application?

I have researched them! I am not sure Chicago is the right fit for me geographically (I have a strong support system if I move to Boston). There are a few online programs I am also considering, none of which stand up to the caliber of HDS for sure.

I have extensively researched other programs - there are a few I am considering. It is more difficult when you come from a multi-faith perspective as many of the top schools are single-faith based. While others exist, I believe Harvard has the best program for multi-faith students.
