So is public transportation pretty easy and safe? Are there definite areas to steer away from. My concern is that when I am looking for a place to live I am so unfamiliar with the city I don't want to end up in a bad place. I am from a large city. I like city living so I have common sense about safety just concerned that I haven't heard any positive feedback about living in Memphis.

Have been accepted to University of Memphis SLP program and want to know about the city. Every time I tell someone that's where I am thinking of going they say that Memphis is a very dangerous place to live. Any info from current residents and suggests on where it would be safe and cost effective to live would be appreciated.
